  4. If i have to say so myself ๐Ÿ˜† This route is probably on the best gravel surface you can get! Basically zero corrugation, mostly smooth hardpack and about 95% gravel, 5%tar. I always joke and say you can probably do this race on a road bike!
  5. Hi Guys Yes unfortunately it just isn't possible to put on a gravel race for much cheaper than this. If you charge in the R400 to R500 range, you need at least 500 to 600 riders to make the event possible, and we definitely won't get those numbers out to a destination venue like Caledon. We've had quite a lot of trial and error over the past 7 years in putting on these types of events, and the Filthy Fondo entry fees are pretty much as low as we can make them to put on an event that's worth it for the organizers and riders. That said, we do try to accommodate those people who are really not comfortable with the higher fees by usualy having early bird entries avaliable at discounted rates. Also, Coffee and Rusks, Beers and Boeries are on us at Filthy Fondo Caledon, so no need to bring the wallet! Cheers guys, and see you there @Sid the Sloth!

  18. Marshals are required at all tar road crossings. Mountain bikes are definitely welcome!
  19. Regarding the altered Route Markers. I personally drove the whole route the morning before the start. Someone changed those markers after i checked them. When the lead bike realised they had been altered during the race, the lead bike corrected it. I Immediately drove out to that point, and saw that they had been altered again for a second time within 20 minutes. We had all the farmers permission to traverse their land, even though this happened on a public road. We learn from this, i like the chaulk idea, and i know marshals are ideal, but difficult on a limited budget.
  20. I'm not making this up, we had a proper Belgian Beer company lined up who ghosted us when they found out they had to apply for a liquor license. Had to rope in SAB who stepped up and also very kindly provided all the seating and umbrellas.
  21. Ps, as soon as we found out that the ambulances weren't on site we got one on the route immediately. We however had to wait for a second one to arrive before we could start the next batch of riders.
  22. Hi guys, my name is Adriaan Theron and i am the organiser of the event. We have been organizing big events for over 6 years and never before have we had such bad luck in the run-up to an event. One of the big issues were that we were let down by a trusted ambulance service provider, which had a huge knock on effect on my roles for the day. Mistakes were made, I am truly sorry for any inconvenience and i strive to do better.
