  1. Is the measurement taken from centre to centre?
  2. Ah... Sorry, Droo. I didn't see your previous post. Thank you, the front hub is the easy one, its the rear that is doing my head in!
  3. I hope it works, i'll let you know the outcome of the experiment... Might be a costly one...
  4. Okay, I emailed Novatec and this is what they came back with... Hi Juan, thanks for email. We dont have instruction for D142SBT hub, but we have instruction for similar 2SB (2 SEALED BEARING) road hub. Please use this ling: http://www.novatec.com.tw/novatec/english/tec_r.php then choose: 2SB ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION(STEP1-6) 2SB DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS(STEP1-4) Hope it will be useful to you. Kind regards, Milan Krusinsky marketing manager I'll try it this evening, hope it works.LinkyJuan2009-06-25 01:01:42
  5. http://www.novatec.com.tw/novatec/english/images/upload/T_MTB_class/1157125899/big_file1.jpg So this is how im going to try do it. im going to remove the soft aluminium nut on the left and use 2 nuts, lock them together on the axle to loosen the nut on the right. Which should mean that i can moer the axle out to the left. Then take the free body off. Think is will work?Juan2009-06-24 05:31:21
  6. Taking out the axle to service the hub, bearings, etc. Will look for a service manual. Thanks for the help, Droo, much appreciated.
  7. Okay... i had a look on the Novatec site and it this one, D142SBT. here is the exploded view. How now? see pic below... I have damaged 14 due to using inferior cone wrenches. Any ideas how to Droo?
  8. Ja, its a Novatec hub. not sure what bearings it has. Most probably cup and cone. "With rear cup and cone bearings you always remove the left side jam nut and cone and pull the axle out through the freehub. This is so that you dont have to sukkel to adjust cones and jam nuts in the recesses of the freehub body." this doesn't work, johan, or am i being thick?
  9. Ok... here are some pics. I've loosened the nut on the other side to push the axle through the free body. it wasn't that easy though... So, i resorted to a mallet and some passive persuasion... Then after m*#ring it a few times the free body is unable to turn... Which kind of tells me that it shouldn't be m*#red... What am i doing wrong?
  10. Thanks Capricorn - mine doesn't work like that. Hog - unfortunately the angle grinder wont be an option here. The Bike is a 07 Silverback Nebraska - i will post some pics of the hub later toady. Trying to get specs of it but have had no luck.
  11. Which way does it come out? towards the freebody or the other way? Can someone please explain how to remove it?

    Crank removal

    Thanks guys, much appreciated.
  13. Hi Guys, I'm in need of some advice. I'm trying to remove my crank so that I can get to my bottom bracket. I've got shimano hollowtech cranks and octalink bottom bracket. I'm trying to remove it with a Park crank puller, but the way the puller works is that it needs to push against something in the bb to push the crank arm off, not so. But there is nothing for it to push on because it is hollow. I've tried all sorts of heath robinson things, but nothing is working. Help me please!

    Bike racks

Well, for what its worth. i havent tried all the brands but i've pretty much tried both roof mounted and towbar mounted. My comments are that the roof mounted ones are good but it can create some clearance issues while driving or when parking. As for fuel ecconomy, it just blows your fuel. The towbar versions are in my opinion the best. The bikes are hidden behind the car so it help with the feul economy. There are two negative to this. It does tend to restrict your view to the rear and if its not the fancy Thule system, you have to remove the rack when wanting to get into your boot. hope it helps.

  18. I would like to purchace a good tool kit but i want value for money. Does anyone have advise for me on this? I would also like to know where the best place is to shop for it? Its mainly going to be used on my Mtb.
  19. Hi Guys, I currently have a Shimano LX External BB and it needs replacing. I would like to replace it with something a bit more "upmarket"... My LBS recommends a RaceFace BB. its about half the weight but im not really bothered about that. As long as it lasts. The BB that they recommend is similar to this. http://www.raceface.com/comp/48/full.png Can anyone give me some advise? I dont have any experience with this brand. I had a look at Dirt Rider's Post on replacing the BB, waht an awesome post! My plan is to buy a new set and replace the existing with new bearings and keep them as spare. Does anyone know what the RRP is this is?
  20. Hi Johan, Thanks you guys are legends! I took the pads off and cleaned them as well as the little brass spreader plate. It now works beautifully! Will test it thoroughly on my ride tonight.
  21. Thanks KonaFan, Much appreciated. Will re-bleed the system and see if it works. My LBS cleaned it and said "that will do the trick". thanks again, hopefully i'll get a reply from Dirt Rider.
  22. where to look: is the hydraulic system still good? Yes, there is no damage to the tubes etc. the hydrolic fluid perhaps? have you been touching the disc with your fingers? Yes... is the disc bent? No. have you crashed recently and damaged the break lever? No are you pads unevenly worn? Yes, and still lots of meat on them. are the aligned to the disc? Yes. again, have you crashed recently? No do you take the rear wheel off when transporting your bike? No, the whole bike goes on a rack. With no other bikes touching it.
  23. its Hydraulic discs. It even does is with the wheel off the axel. Is it possible for dirt to get in behind the actual moving part in the caliper?
  24. hi, Its very wierd. The front brake is fine and feathers great but for some or other reason the back brake sticks about half way through the "pull" of the brake. Its quite irritating. You'll pull the brake right up to the point where it sticks and by this stage the brake isnt slowing the bike down at all even at slow speeds. Then you'll pull it through the sticky bit and... the back wheel locks! I've tried cleaning it with a spirits based (dirt bike type) brake pad cleaner but that only works for about a half an hour and then its back to the same story. has anyone got some advise for me?
