Event Name: Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour When: 11 March 2011 Where: Cape Peninsula, Western Cape Category: Road On the second Sunday in March every year, 35 000 cyclists line up to participate in the world’s largest timed cycling event, the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour. Cycle Tour has grown from humble beginnings, attracting a few hundred participants in 1978, into the iconic international event it is today. Now enjoying its 35th year, Cycle Tour has become a permanent fixture on the calendars of professional and recreational cyclists worldwide. There is a major focus on charity this year. Aligning itself with other major sporting events, the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust has made a limited number of 5,000 entries available to the charity bond sector. Event Name: Cape Argus Pick N Pay Tricycle And Junior Tour When: 10 March 2012 Where: Youngsfield Military base, Wynberg, Western Cape Category: Road The Tricycle Tour is aimed at youngsters between the ages of 2 and 6 years who, together with a parent or guardian on foot, get to navigate an easy 1,5km fun ride. The event introduces young children to the very basic elements of cycling safety and etiquette in a safe and controlled environment. The Junior Tour is ideal for learners between the ages of 6 and 12 years, and they are offered the choice between participating in either a 5km or 10km route. Entries will once again be very limited to ensure maximum enjoyment for all riders. In support of The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust’s on-going safe cycling initiative, all riders must wear cycling helmets and the strict “No Helmet No Ride” rule will apply. Online entries for the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Tricycle and Junior Tour are expected to open on 16 January 2012. Registration will take place between 2 and 9 March 2012 at the Canal Walk Shopping Centre. Free, secure parking is available in demarcated areas at the venue.
