  1. Is that the screw under the silver lever? It was pretty tight, I couldn't budge it. Might have to try the shop again...
  2. I don't think it's that. When I'm in the lowest gear, and I try click up the first one, that's when it's at it's worst - just doesn't go. If I hold the silver lever in place, then there's no problem, and I can usually go through the rest of the gears too. So it's definitely not the limit screws. Thanks, tho.
  3. So the screw underneath the silver lever? It was pretty tight - I couldn't budge it. Should I loosen it, then do what you say above? At what point do I tighten it?
  4. This sounded so promising. I gave it a good spray, but alas, it hasn't helped. Thanks for the reply, though.
  5. Hi I'm trying out a bit of DIY maintenance on my bike... (please excuse me if I get some terminology wrong) I have Shimano Ultegra shifters, and I have a problem where the (smaller) shifter for the rear derailleur don't "click" easily when trying to shift into a higher gear (the smaller cog for downhills). I've worked out that it's because the larger shifter moves in too much when I press the smaller one. If I hold the larger one (i.e. the brake) still (while stationary!), and click the smaller one, then it works like a dream. But while riding (that's hard to do) when I push the smaller one, the whole thing seems to have a bit of play, and so the shifter doesn't "click". Is this something that I can easily fix? When I last had my bike serviced, I was pretty much told this couldn't be done, it would need a whole new shifter. Which I guess is why I'm trying it myself. Any advice/suggestions? Thanks Sean
  6. Assuming the winning time is 5 hours, and the slowest time is 10 hours, then there's a 5 hour gap, and since there's a 2 hour start gap (theoretically between the slowest team and the fastest team), then the formula would be: ([7 hours] minus [your start time]) divide by [2 hours] times [5 hours] plus [5 hours]. So: Start at 7am: (7-7)/2*5+5 = 5 hours. Start at 6:30am: (7-6.5)/2*5+5 = 6.25 hours. Start at 6am: (7-6)/2*5+5 = 7.5 hours. Start at 5:30am: (7-5.5)/2*5+5 = 8.75 hours. Start at 5am: (7-5)/2*5+5 = 10 hours.
  7. also, anyone got any recommendations what what (if any) wet weather gear to take? are raincoats essential or just an extra weight (gonna get wet anyway)? shoe covers - same applies - worth it or don't bother?
  8. can you please post it? should at least give us a rough idea of percentages, which we can apply to our own 9.5 hour target
  9. Go Silver Sovereign!
  10. And let me just add, paying to ride in a race is not the same as paying to have a company host your timed results online for perpetuity. It is a simple concept.
  11. I can't believe how some people are complaining about the costs of the Argus or the setup with PPA. Seriously?! The Argus costs about the same as a round of golf. For that price, they close off some of the most beautiful roads in the world - let me reiterate that: in the world! Practically an entire city has to make do with traffic closures. There are emergency services, refreshment stops, etc. etc. etc. What do you get for that on a golf course? Seriously, WTF?! Someone complained that it should be lower because it costs a lot to get there - well the price of playing at St Andrews isn't lower just because it would cost me an international flight to get there. How illogical is that - take your complaint to the airlines, not the Argus organisers. And criticising the PPA? Jeez, guys - what more do you want? Be careful of wishing for their demise, you might just get what you want. Personally, I am more than happy with their product & service. They're doing a fantastic job and I can't imagine anyone else getting as much right for such a reasonable fee. Viva PPA
