I didnt feel the sense of occassion like previous years. There were many stands, but it just didnt fulfill my expectations. (which werent that high) I mean come on! it was ridiculous how many top end bike brands were failed to be exhibited.. To put it simply, The Cape Argus Pick n' Pay Cycle Tour Lifecycle Expo has lost its character.
Strategy is the name of the game. Its like pro tour heaven.. having 100 guys working for you and then attacking them on the latter parts of a race!! Now thats true Professionalism! Favourable.. NO Effective.. YES
I was with you in E last year and finished in 2h56 so we should be around the same strength (i hope) My bike weight plus myself = +/-75kgs And for the first 70kays you wont see me but as soon as we hit chappies the guys are going to go for it.. We just need a group of about 20 SENSIBLE guys to drive to the line with us. (yes i have talked to friends in A and we have a strategy) Feel free to help out Tiny K.
Fastest A rider last year was 2h48 Wanted 2h39 this year but realistically I am aiming for 2h45 or less. (yes 5-6 minutes is a huge difference) Is this possible?? Can anybody comment on the cohesiveness of the A group last year?
E group last year was motoring. By Ladies Mile we had already caught C,D riders. We worked well together.. (apart from 200 stragglers on our wheel) but by the time we hit the soetwater climb we had split down to about 50 and once we hit noordhoek and chappies it was every man for himself besides a small 8 man group which went over the top of suikerbossie about 400m ahead of the rest. We managed 2h:56. The only timepoint i remember was that we took 2hr to get into noordhoek. A sub 3 in E is not that hard. Just sit in on the flats and pace hard on the hills and remember to attack on suikerbossie.
