Event Name: JOZI2KOZI When: 23 August 2014 - 29 August 2014 Where: Nigel to Kosi Bay KZN, Gauteng Category: MTB SPONSORED BY ALTECH AUTOPAGE NOW IN OUR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR .An experiential adventure through the Mielie fields of the Highveld to the game reserves on the escarpment and the sandy tracks of deep rural Zululand. Every night a cultural event from Mampoer to Mozambique peri-peri chicken. Afrikaans farmers, German settlers, British conservators, Zulu Indunas and Tembe- Thonga fishermen. A long ride of 700km in 7 days. Tented accommodation, meals and ablutions supplied . Solo or teams welcome. Ubuntu and community prizes plus significant involvement with local schools en route. Event Name: Jozi2Kozi Cycle Challenge When: 25 August 2012 - 1 September 2012 Where: Start Gauteng - End Kosi Bay, Maputaland KZN, Gauteng Category: MTB A 7 day 700km journey of discovery, not a race! Ride the wonderful gravel paths and backroads from Gauteng to Kosi bay, experiencing the differant cultures and wildlife reserves along the way. Overnighting with Mielie farmers, German communities, deep rural Zulu clans. Learning and experiencing the wonderful diversity in our country. Ithala Game reserve with armed scouts to keep away the maverick elephants. Wade /swim across the Pongola river with scouts keeping look out for crocodiles. Traverse Zululand Rhino Reserve near Mkuze, in batches of 20 riders with armed rangers as this is a Big 5 reserve!. Head for Mkuze , Lake Sibaya and eventually Kosi bay. These reserves fall into the iSimangaliso World Heritage site Wetlands Park. We overnight in Tents, themed evening and breakfast meals provided by relevant communities ,ie Afrikaans farmers, witblits and sakkie sakkie, German cuisine near Luneburg, Zulu nyama and isishebo ( and most likely a huge party with much warrior dancing and fun) ending up with themed Mozambique gala dinner at Utshwayelo Camp , having piri piri galinha (chicken) and Laurentina. Kosi bay is famous for its century old traditional fish traps, Leatherback and loggerhead turtles, palm nut vultures and legendary kingfish.
