Long & Medium Route: 42KM & 25KM The Long & Medium Routes continue on forest roads with spectacular views and down hills with good doses of single track. The Medium Route returns to the finish, whereas the Long Route continues along the Klein Drakenstein mountain slopes before heading home on this challenging, but captivating course. Kiddies Route: 5KM There is also an easy 5km loop amongst the olive groves. Spectators are welcome to picnic under the trees and watch the fun. There will be food & drinks for sale and jumping castles for the children. Go to Event Page
  5. A factual comment on the medals: we initially had 500 made (they cost R8 a medal by the way), since without a sponsor is quite an expense. On Thursday, we decided to make 300 more, since the Pre entries had closed on 570 the night before. In other words, we had 800 ,medals, so we had enough for 90% of the field (I actually have some left over).

  7. There seem to be 2 opinions on the event: those that enjoyed the race and in their opinion felt the organizing was good, and those that did not enjoy the race because of the absence of water points, the majority of who thought it was bad organizing. Judging by the feedback so far, there were more people that enyoyed the event and felt the organizing was good, compared to those who did not.I am willing to take the blame for the absence of water points (whether the traffic pitched or not), and can guarantee that there will be at least 2 water points for the 2014 event. As for those that felt that the entry fee was expensive: when you do not have a sponsor for your event, you need to cover costs in another way, one of which is to push the entry fee up slightly; also bear in mind that if you did a Late entry, then it cost you R20 more. Please note that we also had to pay Cape Pine (Forestry) R22.80 per person (!!!), a cost we did not incur in 2012. However, there seems to be a general consensus that it was a great course(s), which is good to hear, since I put so much time & effort in laying out & marking the course.

  14. The Wolsely & Van Loveren races, are run under the auspices of the PPA, with reduced/lower Entry fees for PPA members ONLY; non-members have to pay more.As an Event organiser, we need to charge Entry fees that are market-related and allow us to make a Profit. Most participants do not actually realise what expenses are involved/incurred in putting on an MTB event, especially without a Sponsor. There is also Cape Pine who needs to be paid a per person rate for each Participant. For the record, we had a succesful event in 2012, especially considering that the weather was not that great for starters, it was put on at short notice, and without a Spnsor. Cheers, Geddan
