  1. I haven't checked the disc/pad alignment, will do so tonight. With regards to the questions: 1. The lever does not feel spongy, although they do not feel as firm as those on my old bike. Possibly the reach adjustment resulting in the "strange" feel. Before being bled, they felt seriously spongy. 2. No collapsing under constant pressure. 3. Yes, that is the problem. When relative force (enough to stop my old bike dead) is applied, I can still push the bike forwards. Feels as it the amount of bite is less than it should be. 4. It appears to be, the lever travel appears to be normal and not excessive. Can't depress to the handlebar for instance. 5. Have not checked that either, will do so.
  2. Thanks for all the feedback guys, but I'm still unsure as to how I'm going to solve the problem. I've checked the brake lines, genuine Shimano. Running 180mm at the front and working as anticipated. 160mm at the back, where the problem is. Lever does not feel spongy but doesn't feel crisp. Any idea if new discs will sort it out? Considering upgrading to 180mm at the back, desperate for some stopping power!
  3. Hi Guys I'm new to the world of 29ers and have a query about braking performance. My old 26er hardtail would stop quite nicely with its Deore brakes, even when one finger braking was applied. To get my 29er dualie to stop, with SLX brakes, half as quickly I am needing to apply a considerable amount of extra force to the levers compared to my old bike and one finger braking is definately out of the question. I've fitted new pads, had the brakes bled and the discs cleaned and buffed and the stopping performance is much poorer than what I expect. Am I missing something? Any hints/tips would be appreciated.
