  1. This is one of the ways that society and communities can fight back; if nobody buys stolen goods because they are too hot to handle, thieves won't steal. Basic economics "Supply and Demand" - If there is no demand; supply dwindles
  2. Hi Hog. The Recoveri stats are small as the microtagged assets aren't being stolen. For example Meridian Insurance (Durban) Microdotted Taxis (yea the enemy) because insurance theft claims were going through the roof. The owners were pinching each other's vehicles for spare parts. The claims due to theft on that group of taxis reduced by 70% after the microdotting. The RFID tag is used on motor vehicles, quad bikes, ski-boats and motor bikes (R69-00 per month no contract). The tag is the size of a credit card and about 10 mm thick. Currently a bit big for bikes. They are developing one a bit smaller (the size of a R5 coin) which can be used for bicycles, TV's, notebook computers etc (this is about 18 months away from dev) about R30-00 per month subscription. The current network is spread out Nationally and uses the Tracetec infrastructure. (Fully insurance approved) The guy to contact is Rob at sales@recoveri.net
  3. Hi Spartikus. If I may add to your comments. We all know that SAPS have more important things to do than investigate crime. However, all new policeman coming out of police colledge over the last 24 months have had microdot traing at police colledge as an aid to investigate and proactively prevent crime. It has taken time for their adoption; but on the bright side the younger, keener cops are looking for the technology and using it to track assets back to owners. Insurance stats show that motor vehicle hijacking and theft has been reduced by up to 70% (crime syndicates don't buy microdotted vehicles as they can't remove all 15,000 from a vehicle as it is too time consuming). The theory is if you stop buying stolen goods criminals won't be able to sell their stolen goods; so they won't steal anymore. All potential buyers of bikes should subscribe to this. After all I think it's up to us as a community to do something. If all bike shop owners microdotted bikes as they sold them and checked for stolen bikes before they bought them this would be a brilliant crime prevention strategy! By the way Santam and all insurance companies have seen the benefit of microtag technology and may be making it compulsory in the future.
