Sam Sanders and Marc Pritzen claimed the women’s and men’s South Africa Marathon Mountain Bike Championships at the Sappi Karkloof Trail Festival on Sunday, but there was nothing similar in the way they won their respective national titles. Dan Loubser not only won the 2025 36ONE MTB Challenge on Saturday, 24 May, but also shattered the course record and the 13-hour mark in the process. The Freewheel Cycology man’s time for the 356 kilometre course was 42 minutes and 20 seconds faster than Drikus Coetzee’s 2022 benchmark, as well as 25 minutes and 3 seconds quicker than the 13-hour goal. Jan Withaar won two stages en route to the 2025 Glacier Waterberg Traverse title on Sunday, 11 May. The foundations of the Insect Science Azimuth man’s victory were laid on Friday and Saturday when he established a 5 minute buffer over Jaedon Terlouw.
