  2. It’s with great excitement that we can confirm the postponed Bikes2Blossoms MTB event will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024. The Heritage Day extreme storms wreaked havoc on most of the existing routes, and we had no choice but to postpone the 2023 edition. Since the flood damage, the community of Elgin started repairing and restoring bridges and trails to the extent that they’re now in even better condition than before. The amazing project was undertaken, and completed by a few key role players, including Pieter Silberbauer from Trail’s End Bike Hotel, and Rhys Hickson from Oak Valley. Together […] View full article
  3. As 2023 draws to a close, let’s rewind the past 12 months on Bike Hub. This year, events continued their comeback: a welcome return to some semblance of normalcy. This shift prompted major players to implement significant price reductions in a bid to clear excess stock. Against this backdrop we delve into our numbers to see how the market dynamics played out on Bike Hub in 2023. Headline Statistics Classifieds Activity We saw a whopping R237 million in sales proactively confirmed by users. Thats […] View full article
  4. The Stanford 100 Miler has been on my hit list since it first popped up in the Events Calendar last year. Having experienced the magic of the Tanqua Kuru, I knew we’d be in for a treat with Jeremy Crowder at the helm, and the deceptive green rollers of the Overberg to contend with. The start venue was the Stanford Hills estate, nestled at the foot of the Klein River mountain range just outside the Stanford. Picture serene rolling green hills, fluffy clouds reflected in the farm dam, and panoramic views of the valley stretching away as far as the […] View full article
  5. The Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer Trek, presented by Biogen, celebrated its fifteenth anniversary in 2023. Over the decade and a half, the seven-day stage race took riders through the Klein Karoo and across the Garden Route. It traversed high mountains and fertile plains, challenging and rewarding by turns. It grew with the sport of mountain biking, maturing with 29ers into a mainstay of the South African cycling calendar. Yet one of the only constants in life is change. And 2024 is the year for change. For rebirth and reimagination. For regrowth and renewal. As such the race will become […] View full article
  6. When I was presented with the opportunity to shoot a Trail Daze episode that included riding in a game reserve, among wildlife, I didn’t hesitate. There is something magical about the thought of sharing the soil with free roaming creatures. It’s a riding experience that isn’t available around every corner and certainly not back home in the Western Cape (as far as I am aware). We headed to a province not yet featured in Trail Daze – Limpopo. It is scenic, diverse, and rich in wildlife. Our destination was Summerplace Game Reserve, a 3,500 hectare family-owned guest farm just a […] View full article

  8. The 2023 Old Mutual Wealth Double Century took place in warm conditions, from Swellendam, on Saturday, 25 November. A steady, if not stiff, headwind made record and personal best chasing difficult, but did not stifle the racing. DMS & Co went out fast and overcame punctures to key riders to win the title in commanding fashion. Paceline won the women’s race, while Private Client Holdings raced to a stellar third place overall, en route to victory in the mixed category. The 202 kilometre route, which is raced in a team time trial format, took 260 teams and 2 780 riders […] View full article

  16. In The Rhino Run 2022, CIOVITA Ambassador, Kevin ‘Benky’ Benkenstein experienced the kind of setback that might break a lesser spirit. To push oneself to the limit, and traverse over 2,700 kilometres of demanding terrain, only to fall short in the final push is a harrowing experience. It is the kind of moment that can linger in one’s mind, casting long shadows of doubt and regret. However, for athletes like Kevin, such moments are not endpoints but beginnings. They serve as powerful motivators, the fuel that drives them to return, to try once more, to conquer not just the physical […] View full article
  17. The final stage of the 2023 FNB Wines2Whales Shiraz saw Cannondale Factory Racing sail to victory; on Sunday, 29 October. Alan Hatherly and Simon Andreassen completed a clean sweep of stage victories en route to the title, yet the win was not secure until after the Gantouw Pass portage on Stage 3. Imbuko Giant A had pushed them close for two days and were only distanced within the final 30 kilometres of the 185 kilometres of racing. On Stage 1, Marco Joubert and Wessel Botha had fought to remain in contact with the pre-race favourites. Botha suffered a puncture before […] View full article
  18. Stage 2 of the FNB Wines2Whales Shiraz saw the second sprint finish in as many days – on Saturday, 28 October – was again though on the Oak Valley finish line Marco Joubert went down and ceded time to Alan Hatherly and Simon Andreassen. The Cannondale Factory Racing pair had controlled the pace throughout the stage but were unable to distance Imbuko Giant. Behind them PYGA Euro Steel stepped up on to the podium for the day, but were unable to overturn their deficit to Elysator.ch who remain third overall. After the rain which fell on Oak Valley and Paul Cluver wine […] View full article
  19. The opening stage of the final event of the 2023 FNB Wines2Whales Switchback lived up to the pre-race billing. Cannondale Factory Racing and Imbuko Giant took it to the line with Alan Hatherly and Simon Andreassen edging out Marco Joubert and Wessel Botha. Behind them Felix Stehli endured a mechanical and a crash to come home third, alongside defending champion Konny Looser. Friday, 27 October, was just an appetiser though for what is to come in the Shiraz race. Soft drizzle fell on Lourensford Wine Estate as the teams prepared to take on the Shiraz course. The stage would be […] View full article
  20. Staring on Friday 27 October the Shiraz race sees battle lines drawn between a stacked field of elite men’s teams. There are arguably three tiers of teams: the favourites, the dark horses and those who will be racing for a top ten finish. PYGA Euro Steel, Imbuko Giant A, Insect Science, Elysator.ch and Cannondale Factory Racing headline the 2023 edition of FNB Wines2Whales. The team whose name which jumps immediately from the list is Cannondale Factory Racing. Alan Hatherly and Simon Andreassen are not frequent stage racers. Their World Cup pedigree is such however that if they start fresh rather than fatigued, […] View full article

The pair powered to a comprehensive victory, winning the title by 32 minutes and 4 seconds. E-bike racing is a fairly new, and sometimes contentious, addition to race rosters. It dials up the speed and intensity at the sharp end of the field, and the fun factor for all involved, as well as allowing riders that otherwise wouldn’t be able to, to participate in events and experience the joy of cycling. Here we take […] View full article
