  1. Eventually got JAGWIRE replacement pads for the campy holders. R50 per pair. Have had a few rides and seem pretty decent. I think my old pads had gone hard from age so I'm sure anything would feel better. MY LBS phoned and have now got genuine Campy replacement pads in stock so I have a plan B...
  2. When I bought my new bike I had a quick set-up done in the shop and thought I could tweak it as I know bikes and have the mechanical ability. Everything felt comfortable althought different from my previous bike but I changed to a compact frame (Giant) and put it down to the different geometry. 1 month of riding and I had a sharp pain in my hammy bewteen glute and knee. Mine was more pronounced at the knee but I could feel tenderness along the whole length of the tendon. Also had rest & ice, numerous bike set-ups by various learned people, much physiotherapy and am still (4 years now) battling to find sweet spot in the setup. The biggest improvement was a forward shift in the seat (5mm) so it was a substantial change. Obviously seat height had to be raised to compensate. I wouldn't think that a seat itself can cause a hammy problem but rather it's positioning. It may be slightly thicker/thinner than the previous seat making the hamstring stretch further or work in a different direction to from what it is used to. If you have had a fit, then best thing is to evaluate yourself on the bike. Feel if the hammy is stretching further than is normally comfortable. Check if your knees are not rotating in/outwards to the frame. Compare left and right legs. (I have a slight discrepency in leg left that also adds a different dynamic). Ask your riding mates what they think of your riding position,"Does it look like I am sitting too high, too low, is my backside hanging off the back of my seat, etc... Hope this helps. But best advice is to get it sorted out quickly as tendons can take time to heal properly.
  3. and what were they like? Always thought these were the budget Sportsman's Warehouse/Game type parts - not performance parts? Out of interest why BBS-23c and not BBS-03a? Both are indicated for Campy 2000. Checked out my 2 LBS yesterday to see what they had. BBB for carbon fibre rim and nothing else. Joys of a small town! Will have to check Durban shops else will have to order online.
  4. Sorry, I'm a smuck when it comes to forking out bucks, hence research into something "trivial" like brake pads... Chain Reaction has Fibrax Pads R42.80/pair (R21.40/ea) This is what I was using as the comparison as I have seen good reviews and at that price... thought it worth a try if I could find them locally and confirm good reviews. The Campy's from CW are market related priced at around R80 each incl shipping & the SwissTop R115/ea are a bit more than the ones on special at CRC. My smuck status, as mentioned above, still thinks R80 for a small block of rubber is excessive or is it just me and I must just cough up?
  5. The SwissTop are great but at 5x the price...
  6. I have to replace my road bike's Campy brakes and I'm sure someone has already done the homework on this one so any advice would be appreciated. Options are: Buy genuine Campy replacement pads Buy alternative replacement pads into existing holders Buy cheaper pad & holders I would really like to keep my bike stock and Campy holders look great so options 1&2 are best for me. I have read about Fibrax pads which seem much cheaper (R20 each) than Campy's but not sure where these can be bought in SA? Any suggestions of the route to follow and cost involved.
  7. Thanks Guys, Found similar advice on another posting https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=40064&KW=record&PN=1 and some advice to DIY http://www.yellowjersey.org/ergo1.html http://www.nuttycyclist.co.uk/cycling/ergo-rebuild.htm Would like to try changing the G-spring myself but have heard stories of the springs jumping out when releasing the tenion and difficult to reinstall. Also don't want to be without my bike while posting back and forth. Suppose can use overnight delivery but just adds to the cost. Will chat to my local shop first. Finally am I doing more damage using it "clickless"?
  8. My shifter for the rear derailleur lost its index click. Can still shift up and down but shifting up is pretty much a gamble whether you shift 1 or 2 at a time. I found a company who sells the parts and does overhauls but of course is based in the states http://branfordbike.com/page.cfm?pageID=71 This does give me hope that there is someone who can do it locally. Anybody had it done. I'm in DBN.
  9. Any recommendations for Durbs? Road & MTB
  10. I usually head out on a Sunday. No specific time as I go out on my own but would prefer to have some company, had a big wipe last week that could have been far worse... I see your post is a month old, have you organised a set time for rides? I know Rob Parke is also looking to setup something more regular from The Trail Head. (Hope you guiys are members of Holla.)
