  1. so yesterday this idiot runs over main road with this big rectangular parcel half over his shoulder into the bike lane 2m in front of me! so i swerve into the road (not much, just the otherside of the line) and the fool steps back and the parcel knocks me full on in the face nearly knocking us both down. i can hardly see but manage to stay upright and move to the pavement as the blood comes gushing out my right nostril. the arsehole loads the van and drives off! not a sorry or to see if i need help ;( had to block my nose and ride to work, monster headache ensues... luckily i had been riding slower as i realised earlier my breaks were ineffective, otherwise we both could of ended up worse off - or i would of missed him completely. at the LBS i had to explain to the technician sorting out my breaks what the blood was from. alot of interested people to see this bloody, muddy-ed up fold up. one positive though, i got to leave early and even got a lift to the LBS
  2. 8 months since i moved to head office in the cbd and have been recording my time and distance. I've been commuting to different sites all around the southern suburbs for the last 3 years most have been under 10km from home.
  3. so yesterday was my last day before my 6 week cycling break and i fall slipping off the pavement to avoid pedestrians i jumped straight up and cycle as i'm in a rush to visit my gran during visiting hours and only noticed then that i skinned my right knee and top of my left calf ;( this morning i woke up with a scratchy throat. the last time i couldn't cycle for 3 weeks i got very sick, dosing myself vitC now . does any one get sick after not cycling for awhile? my 8 month daily commute to cbd has come to an end, during which i only didn't cycle < 20 days. this morning i saw 7 cyclist on the road and i miss it already
  4. this morning cycling with arm and leg warmers, buff and jacket. will be sweating it out back home...so not looking forward to it, but once i'm cycling it's all good
  5. learned today that if the car slows down slightly and signals to the guy that he may turn into the main rd (from a side road), it doesn't matter if he sees you and your massive flashing light he will go and take he's sweet time. while you side drift to avoid sudden hurt, he will look at you in annoyance because of your bright light. learned today that i need new breaks
  6. hi guys i'm back! caught up again (only a 3rd of the pages compared to last time) learning alot from you guys. probably must have seen some of you around. I started cycling to the office in CBD since November, changed positions but same building. I have not cycled for less than 20 days... i have learned: apathy towards getting my car ecu fixedleaving at 6am is bloody awesome, oversleeping and riding past all those stuck in traffic just makes my day.stupidly take a car or lift to work saddens me every time i see a cyclist go by ;(in the last 3 years I've seen more commuters on the roadconstruction on Liesbeek is a birch and leftovers from accidents are nicely swept into the cycling lanefinally rode in an impromptu bus (awesome!)i have lost alot of weight, and am reminded at every opportunity by familythat wind in Jan/Feb! brought me to moments of standstills in woodstock.there are more greetings than the nod and s:)ei've been so desperate this week that i have cycled with a slow puncture and my big (workshop?) pump.so if you see a guy on a white fold up (Giant FD806) on the liesbeek/lower main road route it's me, also a couple of pages ago there was someone looking for company from claremont/rondebosch, i can join you, i and leave latest 6:30 and leave the office around 15:30. unfortunately i only have till the end of this month to cycle then i will be fasting (ramadaan) then will be off for a 2 week holiday after recovering, hopefully i will start my 4th year commuting
  7. thanks for the reminder.
  8. took me awhile but i caught up! I have been commuting for about 2 years about 7km one way, but started adding more by doing a couple of laps around rondebosch common. I ride a fold up and has been very convenient, especially when my tube burst for no reason in the office and wifey had to fetch me during her lunch time. you guys sound like an interesting bunch! I guess cycling almost daily puts things into perspective. things i have learned: - morning chill/hill climb takes away that morning lethargy at the office - not everyone knows about 2nd breakfast (but quite afew do) - the wind at your back at the end of the day makes you forget how tired you were - SUV's in the suburbs are driven by dodgy drivers - parents dropping their kids at posh schools are in a bigger rush to get to work - not sweaty...wait til you stop I've ridden in the rain by accident and once out of neccessity. i need a bigger bike if i want to do that edit: 2 years not weeks
