  1. We are making progress with the section of track along the Houtkapperspoort fence to the parking area at Constantia Nack. Tomorrow we should get to the parking area at the top See what we are doing on our Facebook group see https://www.facebook.com/groups/1033625694237891
  2. Today the team cut a track through the ground cover just above the Longkloof building. Now there is no need to cycle in the road
  3. Another full day trail building up to Constantia Neck Now the cycle track continues to the end of the surface water channel, behind the barrier kerb, and continues straight out, no need to carefully jump back onto the tar. The re-routed track is now behind the bollards and away from the tar Should be much safer! Will be back again next week, after the rain
  4. Today we rerouted the track, away from the road edge, below the double wooden gates on the way up to Constantia Neck. We've created a much safer route. We will be back again tomorrow. Get your bike on the track and test it out!
  5. Work started, today, on our MTB track upgrade Gift & Alic completed the most important corner at 'Phantom Acres' That corner is much safer now! Thanks for the donations, we'll keep going until the money runs out Go and try it out and give us your feedback
  6. You can ride down the track as well, if i can do it the any reasonable skilled MTB cyclist can do it, just be carefull at the top when you are behind the barrier and in the rain water channel
  7. That's the one, we need all the help we can get
  8. See below for "quicket" link to donate funds so that we can start with our upgrade project I have access to the Trail Angels path building team that worked on the "Missing Link" MTB trail above Camps Bay, they also helped the FOTM/SANParks Honarory Rangers rehabilitate the footpath up to the top of Devils Peak and they are presently helping FOTM/SANParks Honarory Rangers rehabilitate Corridor Ravine, off the Camps Bay pipe tract. Trail Angels need the work and we need the path upgrade! https://www.quicket.co.za/fundraisers/177067-constantia-nek-path/
  9. We have also just started a Facebook page called "HouBay ConstantiaNek MTB Track to clarify what we hope to achieve and collect funds
  10. We are planning to do an upgrade from Longkloof Road all the way to Constantia Neck, We have done a budget of +- R20'000 but we need to start at the tight left hand corner close to the property "Phantom Acres".That's the most dangerous section Our intention is to get away from the road especially at the top where cars park just off the road and block the path I have trail builder workmen available and willing to do the work but we need funding and i will supervise the work
  11. It's Toby Adams and some fellow MTB riders from Hout Bay. It's the best way to get to Constantia Neck, off road. We are planning a major upgrade to get the track 2m away from the yellow line Contact me on WhatsApp on 0832517404 if you can assist
  12. I am looking for other SS cyclist to ride with in Hout Bay, Cape Town My run on 42 x 16 gears with 700 rims Getting out of Hout Bay requires a serious climb
  13. Deon, this sounds very exciting! Can't wait to see what is planned Does this EMP cover an offroad cycling route joining the southern section of the park to the northern slopes of Table Mountain?
  14. Thanks Deon, so how long does the EMP sit on the table for public comment before cyclists see some action on the existing road/trail?
  15. Does anyone know when the 'cork tree trail' from Constantia Neck to the Cecelia forest car park will be opened to cyclist?
  16. It would be wonderful if TMNP posted a very brief update on the progress on the 'circa-peninsula route' or better still the 'cork tree trail' Then the biker population would know what progress is being made
  17. Ooooooooh how dreadfull, motor vehicles are allowed on part of this route but no cyclists! Does seem a strange anomoly
  18. Yeh right! That's how this discussion started 9 weeks ago, cycling the 'cork tree trail' when it was perceived to be open on a trial basis but at the same time TMNP were issuing "Written Notice To Appear In Court" for being there on a bicycle Just a time frame, that's all we want, then we will go and cycle somewhere else in the interim
  19. Deon, i get a little glassy eyed with all the acronyms used here. MOU's and EMP's I know i have strayed off track a little but WHEN will we be able to cycle the CoCT green belts in Constantia. Working with CoCT i would presume befoer the 'cork tree trail' is opened by TMNP
  20. Deon, are you saying that the CoCT green belts are open to cyclists? This would be amazing as i don't want to cycle in the traffic, i don't want to go home via the closest trauma unit
  21. OK! so we are now all on the same page. I don't ride 'the cork tree trail' any more but when i run that trail i see many cyclists using it The circa-peninsula route sounds a wonderfull vision but will presumably take a long to reach finality Deon, please tell us more about 'why do you think CoCT greenbelt access was passed so quickly' - we need an update
  22. OK! now we know how how frustrated we all are One last request - Will you be able to give us a monthly update on the progress of the opening of 'the cork tree trail'? Even if it is a 'no progress yet'
  23. I tried but i can't let this nonsence go unanswered My Wild Card covers the daily conservation, which is payable at all SANParks When we cycled in the Richtersveld National Park we did not require an Activity Card We were also not 'restricted to public roads' as there is a 22km single track from the base of Helskloof Pass all the way to Sendelingsdrif, inside the Park So to say 'It would in fact be EXACTLY the same thing as if you rode your bike on the tar road from the park entrance above Smitswinkels to Cape Point' is a shocking distortion of the truith All i want is to be allowed to cycle from Constantia Neck parking area to Cecilia Forest parking area, inside the TMNP, along an existing gravel road which is utilised by the general public who are driving their vehicles to the 'Art in the Forest' ceramic studio as well as an existing footpath/cycle track nexto Rhodes Drive No new tracks need to be cut, just open the existing route to cyclists, it cannot be difficult, no need for a EMP
  24. 1. Don't want to discuss it any more 2. It was the TMNP area around the dams, not the 'current Black Hill track' 3. Agreed After 7743 views and 236 replies to this tread we've got no closer to a solution It will be quicker and more enjoyable to go back to the Richterveld National Park and cycle there, again, for 5 full days without an Activity card or any official waiting for an EMP SANParks officials at Richterveld National Park will welcome us with open arms
  25. Thats right Deon, +- 50 cyclists fined on the 1.5km long 'cork tree trail' on the day i was fined. On that fatefull day i was in a line of about 5 cyclists all receiving the same fine at 09h00 and when i returned to the 'cork tree trail' at 11h30, after cycling to Rhodes Memorial, there was still a long line of cyclists receiving the same fine. Do the maths yourself, this was not a 'one off' event Last Saturday we were cycling the legal Black Hill route when we came across 3 local cyclists that had just been attacked by some thugs, thankfully the cyclists were prepared and moered the thugs who fled into the fynbos, where were the TMNP field rangers? On Sunday i hiked the pipe track above Camps Bay and there were so many people on the track it would have been foolhardy for thieves to attack anyone, they would have been moered as well I say get more people into the mountains, we should be safer in numbers
