  1. i am keen to know where the other +- 50 cyclists are who were fined on the same day as i was fined There must have been a hearing on a day before my court hearing day as TMNP did not even have a representative in court when i was there I have never been to court before in my life and when the state prosecutor simply discarded the green piece of paper in my hand i wasn't going to hang around and discuss the matter I was in the lift foyer waiting for the lift within 30 seconds of her dismissing the case
  2. Today i was in court 10 at wynberg magistrates court i was called up to the state prosecutor desk before the magistrate entered court Her question to me was "are you going to contest this case" My reply was "yes" She picked up a pen and drew a line through the green document in my hand and said "case dismiss" I said "Thank you" I was out of there before court proceedings started WHAT A CLASSIC WASTE OF TIME AND STATE RESOURCES My question remains - when will the 'cork tree trail' be open to cyclists on a trial basis?
  3. Exactly, they are still sitting on their hands waiting I did not pay my R 2500 fine on 20July2015 and will be in court 10 on 07 August 2015 at 09h00 ready with a very good defence, lets see if TMNP has the balls to show up. I suggest we rather spend our money going to Cape Nature Reserves like Swartberg, Anysberg, Grootvadersbosch, DeHoop, Salmonsdam, Kogelberg, Marloth, Vrolikheid, Hottentots Holland, Jonkershoek, as they are all open to Cyclists
  4. Maybe TMNP should have a look at what the Western Cape government, Wesgro, local municipalities and private stakeholders are doing in other areas for cyclists See article below; Cape Town wants to lure cycling tourists It's a new cycling project on a scale yet to be seen in South Africa. A proposal to connect Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay with a single, safe and scenic continuous track for riders was unveiled by MEC of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde yesterday. http://www.iolproperty.co.za/roller/news/resource/2015_06_cape_cycle_route.jpgClick here for larger map Local cycling organisations have backed the plan, saying the large-scale project - which is set to stretch over 520km - would position Cape Town as the cycling capital of Africa. The development of the new route is being driven by the Western Cape government, Wesgro, local municipalities and private stakeholders in the region. And while it is still in an early stage, with audits to assess what would bring the vision to life, the aim is to spawn a new so-called "cycling economy" as the influx of tourists provides a boom for local businesses and creates a myriad new jobs, said Winde. As part of the process, those backing the project will be looking into how they can use existing tracks in the area between Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay and incorporate them as part of the route. The complete route is part of a five-year plan with the first 160km phase between Plettenberg Bay and Mossel Bay set to be completed by 2017. "Our goal is to expand opportunities for the private sector to invest and create jobs. This project opens up the possibility of growing the cycling economy - including in accommodation, bike servicing and restaurants - along the full length of the route." He added that through the route, the aim was to link two of the region's most scenic towns and draw more visitors to some of the Western Cape's lesser explored areas. "The route will act as a catalyst drawing visitors to the region, who will in turn explore areas surrounding the cycling route. This increased economic activity will drive new employment opportunities for residents." Pedal Power Association chairman Steve Hayward told the Cape Argus his organisation was "fully behind" the proposal. "This is the kind of thing we have been driving for, for years," he said yesterday. The Association is behind one of Cape Town's biggest tourist attractions, the Cape Town Cycle Tour, which is sponsored by the Cape Argus, Pick n Pay and Momentum. Last year it was revealed that the timed race generated around R450 million for the economy. The Absa Cape Epic, the annual mountain biking event which takes place in the Western Cape's country side, generates a further R218m for the economy. Hayward said the figures pointed to the fact that cycling was the "Cinderella of sport" in South Africa. "It's growing so quickly and more and more people are interested becoming part of it." He pointed to the cycle paths in Table View, saying that they were packed with riders every weekend. "This new route has the potential to really put us on the map." Hayward expected riders from over the world to flock to the route as they sought to scratch having done the "Cape-to-Plett" off their lists. He said the Association was more than willing to not only lend their expertise during the route's early days, but also get in early and invest in the project. Wesgro chief executive Tim Harris said the plan was for the route to accommodate experienced and beginner cyclists, with the aim of including challenging mountain trails, scenic forest single tracks, jeep tracks and roads. Even unused sections of railway could be transformed for cyclists. Winde said the development of the track was part of a bigger cycling tourism strategy. He said cycling events generated over R700m for the Western Cape's economy each year. "Visitors travel from across the world to participate in these flagship events. We envisage that this route will have the same global appeal." The project is part of a bigger goal of attracting 100 000 cycling tourists to the province every year. 5. Thanks Tim for the advice I'll go to court with an interesting book and wait my turn, i most certainly won't pay an admission of guilt fine of R2500 for cycling this 1500m track of alien vegitation In future, to get to the TMNP jeep tracks below Tafelberg Road I'll be forced to cycle in the traffic, with the option of going home via the local trauma unit Let's call an end to this discussion, and wait for 2020 or somewhere around there, when we will be able to congratulate those with more patience than me
  6. Deon, thanks for your detailed reply, much appreciated and keep up the good work You very obviously have far more patience than me to sit through so many meeting trying to get approval for the "circum-peninsula mtb/shared-use trail" From the time of the original '2002 EMP' till now in 2015 is one hell of a long time All i am at present asking for is access to the 1500m of 'cork tree trail' running adjacent to the very narrow, dangerous for cyclists, and busy Rhodes Drive, no fynbos there, only alien pines and cork trees One can feel for the 'service delivery' protesters if this is how long it take to get a goverment agency to resolve a small item like this
  7. Let's stick to the subject, and may i repeat my question to any 'official' out there When will cyclists with valid activity cards be given permission to cycle the so called 'cork tree trail' in Cecilia forest (from Cecilia entrance gate at the top of Southern Cross drive to the main gate near Hohenort Avenue)? Just an estimated time frame, thats all
  8. if it is a signage thing then TMNP can have my R2500 today and they can pay me back in 8 months time
  9. Is there someone 'official' out there who can give us cyclists some idea of how long it will take to get the signage in place and grant permission to cycle the 'cork tree trail'. Just a clue....., and then i am sure we are all prepared to continue cycling out of town. Make an anouncement in the press or on air (not in this forum as not all cyclists use "thehubsa") Would it be to much to ask for TMNP to make an announcement?
  10. I have been charged with "cycling where is not allowed to cycle" and instructed to appear in court on 07 August 2015 at Wynberg Magistrates court no 10 at 09h00. I will be there!
  11. 6 weeks ago by a SANP field ranger, in uniform, at the Southern Cross end of the trail Can't wait for my day in court, can you imagine a clear thinking magistrate upholding a R2500 fine for cycling in an area where there is obvious confusion about whether it is open or not
  12. There seems to be some confusion as to whether the "cork tree trail" is open to MTB's on a trial basis or not. I was also told by one of the filed rangers that it was the only section open. There is at present no "No cycling" sign at the gate at the end of Southern Cross drive. I was issued with my 'written notice to appear in court' at the other end of the "cork tree trail". I have an option of paying an admission of guilt of R2500. They will see me in court. By the way i do have an activity card I was previously mugged of all my posession on the trail above the Manganese mine off Chapmans Peak drive in the TMNP area while trail running What a pity TMNP does not communicate properly and then we would not have this standoff
  13. Who will be joining me at Wynberg court on 7 August 2015 (court 10) because i dared to cycle the 'cork tree trail' in Cecilia Forest on Saturday 20 June 2015. There was a long queue of MTB's behind me all receiving green "Written notice to appear in court" I was mugged in the TMNP +- 8 weeks ago and relieved of my goods while trail running Would it not be more productive for the TMNP field rangers to patrol the mountain to keep muggers out instead of having all the field rangers keeping the MTB's out? What a lost opportunity! Don't think i will renew my activity card when it expires
