  1. Another great nod to John Wakefield in this article: https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/revealed-how-tour-de-france-time-trial-recon-helped-pogacar-to-time-trial-win/
  2. Some great news: https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/police-find-and-arrest-spectator-who-caused-mass-tour-de-france-crash/
  3. Magnus Cort Nielsen only 8 seconds down at checkpoint 2.
  4. Rain must have played a part, but maybe he also has some other intentions for the rest of the tour? Some Giro-like attacks?
  5. Completely missed it, but Nic Dlamini finished in 36' 31". Not a bad effort at all. Well done Nic.
  6. Victor Campenaerts about to set off. World hour record holder. Could be interesting.
  7. Hopefully a disadvantage is all they suffer and we don't see any more riders on the ground.
  8. MvdP doing everything he can to hang onto the jersey: https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/10-hour-journey-delivers-sponsor-incorrect-wheels-for-van-der-poels-tour-de-france-time-trial/
  9. He is also lying 7th overall for the white jersey, 5 mins behind Pog, so a good TT today might move him up a few spots. Go Stefan. He isn't a terrible climber either.
  10. Wuss ????
  11. Nah. Small stuff. ????????
  12. According to Cycling News, Thomas had a dislocated shoulder and they popped it back in so he could carry on. Definitely not soccer.
  13. Congratulations on your vastly improved time. Not that I am any type of expert on this, but I'd say your goal for next year is pretty much in your own hands. In theory, anything is possible, but it comes with a corresponding ramp-up in training. You need to weigh up how much and what type of training you can fit into your day. I know people who only have time for a few spinning sessions a week and a couple of long rides on the weekend. I also know people who are in the fortunate position that they can ride 4-5 hours every day of the week. Not surprisingly, the guys and girls who are able to train more and with consistency are the ones who do well and are usually able to improve their times from year to year. Although, as Veeez points out, its not a linear relationship. Once you get to a certain level of fitness, gains are harder to come by and less significant.
  14. Many years ago (when I was young and stupid) we clocked over 100km/h going down past Panarama Flea Market in the same area. Those were the days.
  15. My physical limitation is that I'm a wussy.
  16. My max speed was about the same at 70.5 km/h. I'm 72kg and I have no clue how much my bike weighs. But I must admit, I'm one of those people that pulls off to the left and starts feathering their brakes at those sorts of speeds. I'm in no danger of winning anything and the 1 or 2 minutes its going to gain vs the 6 weeks off the bike waiting to heal from my injuries (or worse) just isn't worth it IMO.
  17. Yup. Me too. It has nothing to do with the fact that I'm too old and too slow.
  18. I am wondering about the number of entrants vs. starters/finishers. The organisers quoted 33,000 entrants in this year's race. Racetec has just under 20,500 timed finishers. That means that nearly 13,000 people either didn't start, didn't finish or rode without a chip. I know that there were a few people without chips getting past the marshalls (despite the organisers' "no chip, no ride" policy) and there will always be those that don't feel they can ride on the day and obviously those that don't finish, but 13,000 just seems really high to me.
  19. Rode my 11th 947 with a 3h22 from I. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm happy or not. On the one hand I improved by PB by about 25 minutes. On the other, looking at my splits, I rode the first half of the race in the same time as the second. Being so "back-heavy" as one hubber described the race, maybe I took it too easy at the beginning? And what is wrong with me that I just cant find a group to ride with? Aside from bits and pieces here and there, I rode 95% of the race on my own. Will just have to go back next year and try harder.
  20. Definitely. Ride safe hubbers. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  21. Many years ago when the track was a part of the race, we used to ride it anti-clockwise. I haven't done much research, but it looks as though that is what the map is showing for this year too. I don't think there is any option but to ride on the track itself. As for the entry and exit, the map shows us going in at the main entrance. It seems to show us going out at a different point slightly South of that, but who knows. Might just be the way they drew the map.
  22. As Veeez says, you will need to be reseeded at registration. See below taken from website: "The initial entrant needs to send their Number Collection document and a letter of permission to the new participant. The new rider needs to come to Number Collection, collect the number, and then go to Queries to request a substitution. The new rider will be reseeded according to their own seeding index. Substitution fee = R150.00."
