  1. Hey all, very much a noon to MTB, came off dirt bikes so family trying something new. Looking to get my son trail bike, something that can take on the single tracks, tech and some jumps as well. Happy to go second hand as only have a budget between R10k and R15k (yes I almost fell of over when I saw the price of MTB). My son is 1.7m tall and stocky, he already has a trek jack 2 jump bike for the pump tracks but with a single gear is struggling at the intermediate trails at cycle lab bike park as the climbs killing him. Any advice or recommendations would be great, looked at the specialized rock hoppers and they looked pretty good but open to advice, he is a pretty aggressive rider but not interested in xc or dh, I understand that trail bikes apparently sit nicely in the middle. Will look at hard and soft tail (we have only ever ridden hard tails) and would prefer something that has air shocks that can lock out. Thanks all
  2. Hi all So a month ago I got my son a trek jack 2 DJ. He loves it and I must admit I got hooked on the idea of hitting the pump tracks and free ride trails with him. Now I am 195cm and clocking on 123kg. I am a complete newbie to mountain biking so need some advice on what would suite me. What I have so far is that it should be hard tail, was recommended I use a GIANT frame and stick to 27.5 or 650b for DJ and free ride. Any guidence or recommends would be greatly appriciated. Also I don't own Google so not looking to spend a mint to see if this is a hobby I would like to pursue. Was given the name of Robert Frost who can help with the wheel setup up buy that's about all the knowledge I know ha ha. Thanks all in advance.

  4. Howzit, my son is 11 but he is a big boy, he is over 1.5m tall and about 58kg The front shock looks like it's close to bottoming out when he is doing small jumps so I think I will need to stiffen it up a bit, rather let him take a bit of arm pump then bottom out the forks and fly over ha ha
  5. Hi all is there a matrix that you can refer me to so that I can set my son's front air shocks based on his weight. I could do the old fashion try and and adjust but would be nice to have a guideline.
  6. Thanks bud, supposed to be Xmas but knowing me it will be the weekend ha ha
  7. Bike just landed from PE, super excited to surprise my son.
  8. OK all have taken this bike, thanks for all 5hr feedback
  9. OK round 3, this looks like pure dj bike but I am sure I can put extra gears on. Just worried that's its a 26" https://m.facebook.com/groups/1685152098418815?view=permalink&id=2779888542278493
  10. Great thanks, my neanderthalness on bicycles is evident ha ha
  11. How about this, I know soft tail not great for jump track but apparently a good all rounder?
  12. Spoke to the chap and he said that my son already being about 1.5m tall he would outgrow the bike in a year.
  13. @jewbacca would this be somthing I could look at for my son? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1177328135977341/
  14. Thanks so much, will check it out
  15. Thank jewbacca for the insights, my son is turning 12, he has a legion trick bike and a stunt scooter, we usually hit eduplex pump track and pwc, he used to ride Enduro motorbikes so can handle most jumps, he likes to ride a mix of everything but at the moment can't jump the pump tracks very well on the trick bike, the jump bikes usually seem to be a single gear ratio so not great on the scramble tracks. I know weight is key on the jump bikes but was hoping there was some sort of middle ground I could get without going full mountain bike.
  16. Hi all, new to the the jump bike scene, looking for a jump bike that can also hande a some trails for my son, some guidence and recommendations would be fantastic.
