  1. I have a DT Swiss wheelset with a 105 11 speed cassette fitted. I've used it since around Nov '18 and after riding in the rain twice in the week before the World Funride Champs (and washed her well each time), it started making a noise last week - when I stripped everything (I got a little bit of grit in the mix), I noticed that the loose gears had started leaving indents in the freehub - I had bought it new before I started riding the wheelset. The cassette has 3 or 4 gears grouped together and the rest are loose. I am wondering if there are any (affordable) 11 speed cassette's out there that have bigger groupings - like 4,4,1,1,1? I spend a lot of time mid-range on the back, so having a couple grouped together will spread the load across a few contact points rather than just one. Obviously googling has yielded no results, so opening up to the knowledge base of the hub. TIA
  2. Hope there is some hubbers that can assist with this issue of setting up a Shimano 11 Speed Front derailleur. I recently bought a brand new 11 speed 105 groupset (Excluding crankset, as I have a BB30 Carbon FSA crank) The issue is that I can simply can't get the FD setup properly. When FD is setup so that the chain does not rub against the FD while in big chainring and 2nd sprocket from the top, the chain will rub against the FD when I'm in the smallest sprocket, and vice-versa. I have setup the trim settings properly, but this still doesn't help. I built the same groupset onto my brothers bike (Italian import), no issues whatsoever and works like a charm. Only difference is that he has a braze on fitting as part of the frame, as opposed to my FD with normal bracket around seat tube. He also uses the 105 crankset as opposed to my FSA. I built the groupset onto my Cannondale Supersix. Added in-line barrel adjuster for fine tuning. Setup exactly as per Shimano instructions - No luck. I have taken this to 2 bike shops - no luck either. As always works fine on a bike stand, but when you actually ride it and the horizontal forces come into play it is a different story. From what I've managed to research there is no difference between FSA 10 speed / 11 speed cranksets. Any additional insight would be welcomed.
  3. Whats the most cost effective 11 Speed setup for MTB? What's the best gear ratio to go for. I need to not run out of gears on flats & slight downhill and need an easy gear fro steep climbs. Been suggest to go with 11-42 and front ring 30, 32 or 34. Any suggestions please on what to buy, where, what gear ratio etc. Thanks. 4. Just came across this and wondered if anyone has pulled the trigger on the One Up 50T rear sprocket and what they thought of it, what the best use would be and what an ideal trail front ring would be. I run a 30 front with a 40 (might be a 42) rear and that does find for most things. It just looks so weird and massive. Not sure if it's available locally. http://int.oneupcomponents.com/products/50t-shark-sprocket-18t-1x11 http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0573/2837/products/OneUp-Components-50T-Shark-Sprocket-Green-Front-Assembled-M700-Evil-Following-966_grande.jpeg?v=1458233146
  5. I'm hoping there is some mechanics that can help me as this is driving me nuts! I'm trying to adjust my Shimano 105 11 speed FD but just can't seem to get it right. I have followed the Shimano instructions but no luck. Main issue is that when I'm in the big chain ring and 2nd gear from the top at the back the chain catches on the inside of the FD. (FD in top trim) When I correct this issue the chain catches the outside of the FD when I'm in big chain ring and smallest sprocket. (No trim) The other issue that I picked up is that if I use the cable routing through the adapter to the right of the fixing bolt I can get no leverage from my STI and shifting is almost impossible. I tried both positions offered by the adapter but it simply wont work. Hence I had to revert back the the traditional way of fixing the cable to the left of the fixing bolt and bypassing the adapter. It seems like I simply cannot get this setup. Maybe worth mentioning I've been setting my gears myself all my life, from Shimano 8 speed to Campy 10 speed - never had any issues.
  6. I see Hope is bringing out an 11 speed cassette, 10-42 of 10-44. It sounds like it will only fit Hope hubs, though. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Hope-boost-148-110-10-speed-cassette-11-speed-1-600x400.jpg http://www.bikerumor.com/2015/04/29/soc15-hope-10-and-11-speed-wide-range-cassettes-full-boost-hubs-and-wild-show-bikes/
  7. Need a XD driver (11speed freehub body) for an American Classic wheelset. Come now, peeps...Help a brother out.
  8. Having switched recently to the one by side of MTB'ing (and absolutely loving it!), the question beckons, is 11 gears really necessary? I have a XT 11-36t 10 speed coupled with a slightly large 36t. I agree the 36t is a bit big... quite large. But thats a problem I'm sorting out as soon as I can. I've ridden Gauteng area's rides like: Groenkloof, Monument Park, and Red Barn and didn't once wish I had more gears. And with one up sprockets becoming more available and products like http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/leo-general-lee-42t showing itself, the range of a 10 speed cassette can be greatly increased with it still being smooth. Its, in my opinion, even possible in the near future that brands like sram and shimano will start making cassettes with a larger range, e.g. a 11-42t range. With a cassette like this, or a one-up sprocketized cassette, your range is large enough. If there is a issue of smoothness, you could replace you 15t and 17t sprockets with a 16t, giving much smoother transition to your granny... gear. http://www.kalbo.co.za/productsRCS.html So my question is, is the 11 speed worth the money, or even, is it necessary?
