  1. Hi All you super guru's! I need to pick your collective please My wife has a Merida Big Nine 300 with a 2 x 10 xt and FSA TH-7420ST Cartridge Bearing BB. We would like to upgrade to 1x12 NX and here comes the question.... Do we: Change the bottom bracket and replace the entire group set with cranks (not sure if its 170mm or 175mm as its a small) Keep the BB and just upgrade the front chainring with an upgrade kit (Not sure about chain line etc) Any other suggestions? This is all foreign to me but with the cost of the upgrade i would like to make sure we get it right first time. Im sure this will help a few other people out there in the same boat Thank you in advance! Warren
  2. Hi guys, Sorry for posting another topic on this issue but I'm still stuck. I'm looking for a press fit BB for my 26" Rocky Mountain. My frame's BB shell width is 83mm. I'm wanting to get the M7000 SLX crankset. But before I pull the trigger, I'd like to know whether there is a BB that will work for this upgrade. Ideally I'd like to purchase it off a local site, such as CWC or Evobikes etc. Thanks again for any assistance and apologies for posting a second topic. Cheers
  3. I'm looking to get a new crankset (either Lyne or SLX M7000). Looking at these photos, do you know which BB I would need? If I need to measure anything for clarity then I can do that. Someone at my LBS mentioned it would be a press fit BB. So I just want to make sure I know which one and whether it will work with either of the crankset I'm considering. My frame is a 26" Rocky Mountain Element 30 MSL. (2011) Thanks for your help!

  5. Has anybody else had bad service from the Service Department at Cycle Lab Fourways? I can't believe how shoddy their workmanship is. I took my bike in for a headset and BB service on 25 November 2014. One week later the crank arm moved off the spline as it wasn't torqued to spec. I had to cycle about 20km home with one crank as I was alone and it was during office hours. I complained about it at the shop and the technician on duty at the time informed me that he has heard similar complaints about this technician in the past... If that wasn't bad enough, this week I felt that my headset was loose and took it to my local bike shop, Johnson's Cycles in Edenvale. Ken told me that there was dirt and corrosion in the headset and had to do a full clean and relube. Basically I had to pay another bike shop for something I already paid Cycle Lab to do. I then called Cycle Lab to ask them for a refund for the work that I paid them for but was not done adequately. Apparently a decision was taken by top management that it was too late for a refund as 5 months is far too long for a headset and BB service to last. The best that they could offer was a bike wash and lube...as if I would ever take my bike to their workshop again! They also said that if I brought the matter to their attention so that they could see the issues, they would have redone/refunded me immediately; just a warning to everyone out there. It seems that this is a really unprofessional outfit and that they have much to learn in the way of customer service; I gave the workshop manager, "Ido," ample opportunity to restore my situation or compensate me in some meaningful way, but he refused to play ball. Cycle Lab have lost a customer and I will inform my local club and my friends not to support this business.
  6. I did my first BB replacement today. The old BB have been tik-tik'ing for the past month, so I waited for that CWC-special before finally getting a replacement. After the replacement the tik-tik was gone... replaced by a creak-creak sound (also consistent with pedal strokes) I then swapped rear wheels with my dad's bike to try and localise the problem - the creaking disappeared. So I put my wheel back again, and the creaking sound was gone! This also happened the last time my BB was replaced (not by myself though). The LBS said the drivetrain just needed a clean. I just find it odd that a drivetrain-related sound goes creak-creak consistently with pedalstrokes... TL;DR: Replaced BB, more prominent creaking sound, swapped rear wheel, swapped back - creaking sound gone.
