  4. Our route consisted of a mild 30 km loop. Starting on Signal Hill at dawn and traversing Tafelberg Road to the start of the gravel track and back. From here, we descended the winding, tree-lined Kloof Road, through Sea Point and ultimately making the compulsory coffee stop in Mouille Point. I was lucky enough to get partnered with the best-looking bike of the lot, the new 2017 Giant Contend SL 1. We met up before sunrise and were treated with the most intense orange sunrise from Signal Hill, where we made our way to Tafelberg Road and then back down the Kloof and off to a mandatory coffee stop. Having ridden some steep climbs, fast tight descents and everything in-between, the comfort and general bang for your buck with this bike is incredible. Anyone looking to do their first Cape Town Cycle Tour or wanting to get into cycling and not have to upgrade too soon, this is the complete package for you Nicholas Allen There is nothing better than starting a ride as the sun rises. The view from Signal Hill makes waking up early worthwhile: you get the feeling that the whole city is sleeping quietly below you, while you get a head start on the day and enjoy the freedom of two wheels. A quick loop on Tafelberg Road offered more incredible views of the city, and a dash down Kloof Nek for a caffeine fix in Sea Point was the perfect end to the excursion. Kylie Hanekom I have forgotten how far entry-level bikes have come in the past few years, the handling of this bike was superb, thanks to the compact geometry borrowed from its more famous cousin the TCR, this is the bike to get if you want to race and have fun but don’t want to spend crazy amounts of cash. Gavin Salt Riding the Avail made me realise that it is possible to have fun irrespective of the performance level or price tag of a bike. Getting outside and enjoying time with friends is the core of a good coffee ride, and you don’t need a full carbon race bike to experience it. Kylie Hanekom Kit and apparel details: Nic and Kylie were kitted out with the latest Giant and Liv clothing and apparel.Nic wore the Giant Race Day top and bib shorts (top R1,370; and bib shorts R1,785 ). For protection, Nic donned the Giant Compel helmet (R510) and Giant Horizon Gloves (R275). Kylie's shorts and jersey are from Liv's BeLiv range. The shorts retail for R785 while the jersey can be bought for R815. The helmets and gloves are also by Liv with the Race Day gloves (at R310) and the Luta helmet retailing for a bargain R510. 6. http://goo.gl/XRRALr - I'm organising this brilliant self-supported tour in the Karoo...10 days of cycling through an ancient landscape, jumping into waterfalls, visiting organic permaculture gardens, riding with Buffalo, cruising Prince Albert and conquering some breath taking passes...tour is not for profit (just covering costs!). Pack your panniers and head for the hills... https://www.facebook.com/PoortsandPasses
  7. It's been a dream of mine to cycle across South Africa specifically trough the Karoo for some time now and with routes like the Freedom Trail and Dragon's Spine it has been looking more and more like a reality. However after four months of unreplied emails and no more trail info on the website I have given up the the Freedom Trail leaving me with a month before holiday, a copy of "Riding the Dragon's Spine", a outdated website and inactive Facebook page. Has anyone out there ridden from Cape Town through the Karoo? How up to date is the info on the Dragon trail? Are there other routes that can be accessed by the public? Do you need special permission? Who from? We are leaving on the 1st of July, route or no route and will figure it out as we go along if we have to. I'd just prefer not to.

    Argus Entry

Hi! I have an entry that I can no longer use, if anyone is still looking for a sub! Tanya
  10. Argus / Cape Town Cycle Tour Entries A friend asked me to advertise this which is for a really great cause... General entries for the Argus sold out in 8 hours, however we still have entries available to ride for the Sunflower Fund. People entering under the Sunflower Fund charity can either ride in their seeded time or with the charity group. Please spread the word because every two entries through the charity generate R2000 for the great cause, which pays for one person to join the stem cell registry. If you're still looking for an entry and want to donate R1,000 to a really great charity organization, you can pay R1,700 (R1,000 donation + R700 which is less than normal entry and substitution cost) as well as get a Sect. 18A tax certificate for the donation. CLOSING DATE FOR CHARITY ENTRIES IS 30 JANUARY Use the link below to enter, and please forward this on to other cyclists who could be interested: https://online.entries.co.za/entries/jointeam.aspx?eid=2015&group=3c8f7f30-1731-4efc-8171-ab2741f73d6a

  14. So at around 60km's into the race, near to Soetwater, my rear tyre's (tubeless) sidewall exploded off the beading and after a couple of failed attempts by bike mechanics to patch me up I went home in a sweep vehicle as a DNF. A first time for me and a very sad ending to a race that's for sure. Were you also a DNF (Did Not Finish)? Tell us about it here...
  15. Hey Hubbers, To those of you in the Mother City for the Cycle Tour this weekend: Pop in at our Expo stand #275 to say hi. We're on the way out of the main hall. PS. We have a couch
