  1. Hello Hubbers. I searched the forums and read every title and some posts under "triathlon", "watch" and "gps" and while some discuss triathlon training watches etc, they were very specific and beyond my understanding or scope. The goal is get more active in offroad duo/triathlons and perhaps later if logistics allows, road triathlons and eventually 70.3. Currently, my cycling training happens with my phone in a saddle bag and recording it on strava, so route, gradients, speeds and elevation are the information points available, with the Sigma bike computer giving cadence while cycling. I usually go running without it so have no frame of reference besides guestimates of distance on google and own timing. Swimming has been on hold until I can find affordable & safe pool access. TL:DRI'm in the market for a watch that can be used primarily for distance (if possible), active time, running pace (if possible) HR and GPS tracking while running, cycling and swimming. A watch with good constant gps battery life (if there is such a watch, maybe gps sleep mode while sleeping?) and android/samsung syncing capabilities will get massive preference, but anything else like vitality link up, step counters, VO2 max, watts, north point etc or message/call/appointment alers are considered non-Vital bonusses. The budget, while preferred as low as possible (R2000 and under, new or used), is largely dependant on the value that lies in the watches and avoid unecessary expenditure later with upgrading or replacement. I've looked at several products like the Garmin Vivosport, Vivosmart (gps version) and 735XT, Fitbit Charge 2, Polar M430, TomTom Spark 3, Huawei Band 2 Pro, Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro (terrible battery apparently).
  2. I completed my third Duathlon on Sunday in a time of 2h40, improving on my previous best time of 2h57(Which was on a MTB with slicks) The bike leg saw an improvement of about 14mins over 40 km, which is expected because I did it on an actual road bike this time round. I am happy with my 1h14 for now, pretty close to the times of the leaders. (Included a "fall" at the turnaround point, got excited in the turn and started to pedal while still leaning, only damaged my ego ) The run legs also improved from 59min to 55min for Run 1 (10km) and from 31min to 28:44 for Run 2(5km). It was clear as day that my run has allot of room for improvement, the leaders lapped me at the beginning of my third 2.5km lap.... Thus the question: What have you worked into your training routine that has benefited the run leg of a multi sport event the most?
  3. Short and long: Will sheer willpower(and legpower) overcome the latest kit? What do you think, will I overtake any of the TT bikes at the CGT Triathlon Championships this upcoming Sunday the 10th in Germiston on my MTB? Some fact to consider: Bicycle: - 2006-ish Merida MTB Frame with Schwinn fork and basic componentry (Gearing 3x9) (Total cost back then came to about R4000) - 26-inch Slicks running at 3.0 Bar pressure - MTB SPD half cleat/ half platform pedals - MTB pedals - Total weight dry:17kg Personal info: 95kg 1.88m 5k run: 22:41 (Ran at Hartenbosh Parkrun Dec 2015) 10k run: 56:10 Castle Walk Fun Run 2015 (Hilly course) Momentum 94.7: 4h10 (Exact same bike setup) Discovery Duathlon 2015 Sprint: 1h46 I'm doing the Olympic Distance Duathlon race, I assume the course is shared as the starting time for the Duathlon and Triathlon are exactly the same. Still getting comfortable in the water so no Tri this time round. So..Place your bets, how many TT bikes will I claim on my MTB plonker....? If any?
