  1. Hi there anyone imported a full bicycle recently? Would like to know import duties VAT etc. Who does full bicycle courier? Info would really be appreciated.
  2. I negotiated very favorable terms with an international brand to distribute their bicycles in South Africa. Any investors interested to be part of this project, please contact me for further correspondence. Thanks
  3. Hi Hubbers I am considering importing a cassette ,chain, derailleur, shifter ,chainring and some tools. Will I pay any additional fees like customs duty or VAT. I want to order from chainreactioncycles and qualify for "free shipping". Thanks in advance
  4. Hi I recently bought a few things from evans cycles. There was a promotion where you get the cheapest item free. Evans cycles then sent all my items separate due to the items being at separate warehouses. The free item has now been sent. The value of the item is under R1400, and due to it being a gift ( I did not pay for it) I would think they cannot charge duties on it. I did try to explain the situation to dhl, but to try and get hold of them is difficult. Is there anyone with experience in this subject who can give advice? Thank you
  5. Seems like WiggleCRC are spreading the net wider and have reportedly bought up rivals Bike24. With CRC already not shipping certain brand overseas and Wiggle following suit the number of different retailers for direct purchase / shipping available to SA is shrinking. http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/latest-news/wigglecrc-acquires-german-rival-bike24-reported-100m-move-356123
  6. Hi Hubbers! Experience from being an active Hub user has taught me that many of you are doing imports on a regular basis, so perhaps someone can help a brother out (fellow Hubber). He ordered an item from Canada ey, and he was given a message to say that his package is in this country (arrived on the 8th April), BUT upon going to OR Tambo, the security (at international depot) told him that they don't allow anyone to go in and collect at the EMS counter anymore. There is a poster on the security house's window stating that as of Nov 2016 no collection at the counter. Supposedly the security phoned inside there, they got back to him saying he must go to his local post office which he did and, no parcel has arrived. Is he being anxious for no reason, is it still at customs clearance? Your feedback will be much appreciated! An expensive item being eagerly awaited!
  7. A good, rainy afternoon to all Hubbers, Hope no one slipped and slid this morning! I am on the market for a few new thing for my baie-sukkel, and I was prompted by a fellow cyclist to approach the Chinese (AE) and English (CRC) online shops. Having done exhaustive research over the last few weeks, it has proven to be cheaper to buy from these trusty nations. However, I am aware that the price listed does not include our VAT, nor does it include any customs/import duties. Could someone more versed in the cycling imports hobby please be so kind as to give me a breakdown of how it works? Using an example of excellent Chinese carbon wheels, at a selling price of $300 and an exchange rate of R14 = $1.00, what would the grand total be? Does the country of origin of the goods have an effect on these extra costs? Also, I do not pay the kind Chinese man/woman the VAT or duties, who does that get paid to, and at what stage of the supply chain?
  8. Hey Guys Anyone know what duties , vat etc. are if I import a pair of cycling shoes from chain reaction or Evans . cycles ? I want a pair of giro empire slx shoes in orange and no one in SA seems to have a pair in size 45 Thanks Richard
  9. Hi Thanks for the contributions about import duties and taxes on bicycles and parts ordered from overseas, but what about coming back from overseas with a second-hand bike (e.g. bought on Ebay)? I.e. I'm going to London in May and I'm considering buying a second-hand TT bike (and box) there and fly back with it. (Virgin don't charge extra for <23kg bicycle), but I would like to know if there's any duty on used goods. Thanks! Ben
  10. Howzit all, Can anyone point me in the direction of a thread regarding Chinese carbon road frames? Anyone had good/bad results with them? Looking to import into SA, currently have an office in China so we can easily source samples if anyone knows of a good factory. Many thanks all!! May your pedal strokes provide high wattage.....
  11. SO, I'm returning from the UK towards the end of the month. I've been commuting daily in London- average is about 10km each way. It'll cost me around £60 to get my bike back to SA. Obviously used, I don't think I'm liable for tax..? I have one of these: http://www.thebikelist.co.uk/pinnacle/cobalt-three-2014 I wasn't in the market for something like this in SA, so I don't recall having seen anything similar around... Those in the know - are hybrids available? Would you think it's reasonable to bring something like this back? I don't have a job yet, so commuting feasibility is unknown.. I reckon I could always flog it on here if needed- if it's a bit unusual it may be worth a bit more. IIRC, it cost me £550 new, as in the above link. I've added SKS mudguards. Otherwise, it's stock.
  12. Hi there I am looking to buy a Giant Alight, but have been told they will only be in the country in January. A friend is going to be in the UK and I am wanting to buy a bicycle and get him to bring it back for me on his flight. I saw that there was a thread but it is a 2010 one, so I am hoping for more updated information. Can anyone assist me with info on the following: - What would the import duty be? In the previous post someone said there is no import duties on a whole bicycle? - My understanding is that I would also have to pay 14% VAT? - What is the process? So when he lands, what does he have to do? Where does he go? What forms needs to be filled in? How long does this take? Can I do it beforehand? Thanks in advance. ISABELLA MEYER
