  1. Morning Hubbers, I'm keen to try touring rides in 2019 but I love having a Garmin as a backup for navigation. My Garmin 520 has, shall we say, suggestive navigation. https://www.starbike.com/en/garmin-edge-explore-incl.-aero-handlebar-mount/?currency=ZAR&vat=hide&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxs3gBRDGARIsAO4tqq3OPXF6dUi_CJPtD0TrNYR8Q50aOpPPzYJAG3j1SqDth-YrvtRLATMaAt9XEALw_wcB So online research lead me to the Garmin Edge Explore. A unit that looks like the new 1030, but with a lot of expensive bits removed (cant'connect to PM, no rider-to rider messaging like the 1030) bits removed, but critically the navigation function being top class. No one sells it locally (it's not on the Garmin SA website), and I'm hesitant buying it from overseas as the maps may be region locked. They say new maps can be purchased, but at what cost. Has anyone ever bought a Garmin unit from overseas finding the maps are region locked?
  2. Hi all. Will be doing a ride this Saturday 9 June 2018 from the Dros in Krugersdorp (opposite Key West Shopping Center) to the Spar in Magaliesburg. Problem is i know of a route to Magaliesburg (approx 45km's thanks to the Dros Flyers) but not sure how to get back to Krugersdorp without backtracking or going through private land / property. I've attached the GPX file that gets me from Krugersdorp to Magaliesburg, can anyone recommend a route back? Approx 45km's if possible (so total for the day 90km's). Thanks Duane route3509130-Krugersdorp_-_Magaliesburg.gpx
  3. Today I tested the navigation/ routes function of my Garmin 510 with a Spruit route in preparation for Berg and Bush as I had never used the function before. When I got to the end, the Garmin peeped, displayed end of "training ride" & then switched off by itself straight away. I now have no data from my ride as the ride wasn't saved which you usually do manually. I don't want this to happen after 99km of Berg and Bush Day 1 & I'm a bit bleak that I've lost a ride in terms of stats, goals, Strava, Vitality etc etc. I don't want it to happen again, please help. Thanks!
  4. Hi fellow hubbers, As per the forum title, I need advice/guidance on how to set up my Garmin Edge 510 in order to follow a route navigation and be able to see my usual training pages as well. I'm doing the Kaia Manzi event on Saturday 4 Jun and it seems as if we are suppose to download the routes(in gpx format) to our devices. Not sure if this means that there will be no visual course markings? In any case, I know how to copy the gpx route to my device and I can see the course, my question is what other device/route settings do I need to switch on/off to be able to view my usual training pages but still get the necessary navigation instructions? Any feedback would be much appreciated!!
  5. What would be the best GPS device to use for uploading Navigation files supplied by event organisers when doing unmarked MTB Events.
