Good day everyone. I hope all is well! I’m a woman in her late 20’s looking to get into cycling and was hoping I could ask for some advice on which mountain bike would be the best for me? I’m 160cm tall, and my budget is around R3,5k to R5k. I’m also happy (would probably prefer it) to go the 2nd hand route and have been browsing Facebook marketplace, but unfortunately with no knowledge in this area, I have no idea what to look for nor what is a good/bad fit for me. All the different wheel and bike sizes, and different brands have me totally flabbergasted. 😅 I would truly be grateful for any advice you guys could give an ignorant newb. 😁 Thanks so much in advance! Hi all, I'm looking to get a gravel bike as my first bike and have narrowed down my choices to the Titan Switch Sport and the Triban GRVL 520. The Triban has great components and lots of positive reviews, but I've heard excellent things about Titan bikes, especially for the price. Has anyone had experience with either bike? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was doing some research and geez there is so much to consider. I'm bound to have regrets later on after my first purchase due to my own ignorance, so here I am. Hoping some insight can help prevent that Hardtail MTB seems appealing. Our local roads are horrible, and there are tons of light off-road paths here along the beach to enjoy. My budget for a used bike is about R8500ish, so I'll be a bit limited I believe. I'm 1.83m tall. Someone said I should look at getting a '29er'? Which bikes would you guys reccommend in this budget for me? I've heard if gravel bikes too but those just sound like road bikrs with thicker tires. Cant imagine that does fantasticly off-the-beaten-path? Thanks for any input!

Hey everyone! I'm a fairly active woman, in my mid-twenties (1.68 m tall) looking for a mtb within a budget of approximately 3.5 to 4.8k. I just had my entry-level Raleigh nomad 90 26" bike stolen. So, looking to slightly upgrade from this. My aim is to find something that is budget-friendly as well as won't need replacing within a year or two at least. I would potentially like to enter races in the future, I used to run 5 and 10k races (with the intention to do longer ones) but recently stopped due to achilles injuries. I have heard that road bikes tend to be more difficult to ride for beginners. I live in Somerset West so would be riding around here and possibly to Stellenbosch. Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to the cycling scene. I recently had my raleigh nomad 90 mtb stolen and I'm looking to upgrade and replace it. Is the Merida Matts TFS 500 a decent entry level bike? It's going for about 4k. Unsure what year this model is. I have another post up about other bikes that I've seen online but I thought I'd message about the Merida separately as no one has responded to those. Thanks in advance.

Hi. I am interested in starting to ride. Particularly for daily campus commute in the city and it would be nice to use the same bike for leisure otherwise (not too hard trails etc). I've seen the Raleigh Volt 24" e bike on sale and yet I've seen people saying not to buy raleighs or bikes from makro/game on this website? I used to ride when I was a kid (had one of those BMX bikes with reverse brakes for many years...a raleigh which held up well). Since then it's only been hiring bikes on holiday once in a while. I am not fit at all but I am young and do quite a bit of walking. I am about 60kg and 175-180cm tall (and wear size 11s...dk if that affects bike riding). Not fit at all (7 minutes of indoor football has me finished). It's a major reason I'd prefer an e bike. Campus is about 5km away...it's a 40 min walk and a 10-15 min drive. It is near the city centre so regardless of the bike safety is an issue. I'm also an unemployed student. Both these reasons have me wanting a bike that is cheaper. Also I might be carrying heavy textbooks in a backpack/on a rack at the back so weight might increase even above 80kg. I wanted to know if the Raleigh Volt 24" e bike is a worthwhile buy. Both for my size/weight and long term use. Daily commute plus occasional trails. There's another Raleigh e bike called the Glide (29") that's usually cheaper but rn the Volt 24" is on sale. Anyone used Raleigh e bikes? (these 2 and Volt 29" as they seem to be of similiar build and are the only ones available in SA...there's much nicer ones overseas) . I've seen people talking quite negatively about them on this forum but I don't think they've even used them. If anyone has ridden them or knows of someone who has please tell me if I will be wasting my money or is it a worthwhile investment. I'd love for it to last me years but honestly I'd be content if it holds up perfectly for over a year of daily use. I'd also need it to be comfortable enough especially with added textbook weight and not give me any problems to fix. Please assist.

Hi all. I have a very old Avalanche ATX 250 that I got when I was younger as a gift. Fast forward a lot of years and I've started riding around work (I work at a school and I find it safer to ride around the school grounds than to ride on the road) and I'm starting to enjoy it. The thing is, my bike is obviously not great. It doesn't even have front suspension. I think it might be a youth bike because when I tried to figure out the frame size it has size 16 on it. I'm looking to get a new bike that has some front suspension. I don't want to spend more than like R6000 on a new bike because I don't know if the cycling thing is actually going to stick. I'm probably not going to be doing much trail stuff, but I would like a bike that wouldn't fall apart if I did try out some casual trail riding. Because my bike would need to fit in my car for transport reasons, I'd need quick release wheels (and I'd like a quick release seat post because I'm not great at setting my seat height and I play around with it a lot). I would like to use the bike to enter some road races in the future, so I'll be changing my tyres to slicks for those and I think quick release wheels would make that job easier as well. I'm only 156cm tall, so I think I need a size small frame. I'd really appreciate some advice on bikes and brands that might work for me because I'm clearly in the dark a little bit. I know some budget brands are not very safe, so if anyone could steer me away from brands to avoid, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Hi, there, brand new here. I haven't ridden much since living in London some years ago (and my days as a barefoot kid on country roads back in the 90's). My fiancé and I are keen to use bikes for both getting around (mix of gravel and tar roads) and for getting into some basic mountain biking (very tame initially) We went into The Bike Shop in Plettenberg Bay and the very knowledgeable Kevin recommended some Specialized bikes for around R12k each (a little above our ideal budget of 10k per bike), which seemed like a good starting place. Then a friend of ours said that buying new is a bad idea and told us about the Bike Hub, saying that we could spend much better money getting second hand bikes here...and so here we are. Thing is I have no idea of: what to look for in terms of features like brakes, shocks, size, wheels, etc what to pay if a bike has potential issues etc So, oh wise ones of Bike Hub, do we: Buy new bikes and have the joy of trusting a professional Learn at the feet of the oracle here on bike hub and buy second hand ones Become horse-riders?
