  1. We bought our gardener a Raleigh Nexus 2.0 29" bicycle. The frame is nice but the shifters and V brakes are not good. He took it to a local repair shop and they buggered it up by replacing the rear shaft bolt (so now the warranty is voice) and the hub cone is missing so the whole rear wheel wobbles. I've cycled a lot but know very little about the parts so I'm struggling to find a replacement online that I can buy to fix this. I'll add images here to show the issue. If someone can help me find the right replacement or suggest alternative fix that would be appreciated. He's a young guy from Malawi and he takes great pride in his bicycle which he rides to work every day, so I really want to help him. I'm also going to start looking for 2nd hand shifters and disc brakes that I can use to improve the bike for him. VID_20240217_160011.mp4 VID_20240217_160028.mp4
  2. Hi,Im maxelo Baloyi,a beginner cyclist who’s 15 and a student at the local Louis Trichardt high school in Limpopo looking for donations in spare parts to help with performance and the coming schools MTB races along with other MTB events in a month. I’ve got a second hand ,entry level size S .Scott Contessa Scale 710(2015 model) bought from a local.I’m looking for help in possibly replacing the worn out cassette, chain and possibly replace other dead beat parts which were over ridden by the last owner. Any donations or help would be greatly appreciated as my family has to stick to their budget and can’t afford to break the bank currently
  3. I know nothing about bikes. My tenant left his bike build plus all these extra components at my property. I am relocating and need to get rid of all of it. To go as a package not piecemeal. Aluminum mountain bike frame, 4 sets of pedals (new 105's)3 sets of wheels, deraleurs, chain, cogs etc... Had it valued at a bike shop. Happy to take R4000 for everything. Posting here because I do to post multiple ads breaking up all the components. Have more photos of all the parts.
  4. where are all the parts hiding ? ???? Where else does a home builder look for parts ? Other than bike hub or Facebook market place ? surely there are some “ hidy holes “ with all the good stuff hidden in ? ???? in need of some parts to finish off a bike and I just keep coming up short on finding them after watching the classifieds more than what’s deemed healthy ???? If anyone can assist id be really stoked with any contact or if you have the parts and they are not in use I’ll buy them ???? I need to complete the drive train on my gravel bike currently running a mis match and it drives my OCD out the window. i need the following 1X 11 or (1 x10at a push ) sram or shimano rear mech (force, ultegra etc) shifters (road /gravel ) And flat mount callipers to match (ultegra , force etc) thanks in advance ! From a very eager home mechanic ????
  5. Looking for outsole lugs for a Specialized MTB shoe 2016 model as per pic attached. Size EUR 43. Freewheel cycology don't have my size because they apparently not making them anymore. Olympic cycles I suspect called them and simply cannot assist. It looks like I have to call on the hubbers for #assistance.
  6. Does anyone know where I can find Tacx Flux accessories in SA? Been scouring the internet for a 142 x 12 thru axle adapter, part number T2835 but can only find it on websites abroad, shown in attached picture.
  7. Hey guys, I was visiting my grandparents over the weekend and after chatting to my gran about my Mongoose MTB I was building, she decided it's time to hand her childhood bicycle down to me to give some much needed love to. It's a Raleigh bomber (not sure what year model it is yet), mostly surface rust and alot of dirt but the bike is solid! Back then there were no "Girl bikes" and my gran is a short lady, they decided to manually convert the bike to a ladies bike by cutting, inverting and re-welding the top tube back on. The original mount is still there with the marks the grinder left and the bar has it's (now upside down) "bomber" logo on it. The welds were left untreated and has some significant surface rust. Bike is mostly chrome, I suspect the handle bars aren't original as the interweb pics don't show a center stiffening bar like the bmx's have and mine does have. So I've opened up the crank, the front and rear hub, scrubber the bearings, re-greased and refitted the lot, she actually freewheels now and rides quite nice. So I'm wondering, full restore (including fitting the top tube back to it's original position) or partial restore which entails a wire brush, rust killer and maybe a clear coat to keep that patina old school look, this way the bike keeps it's story. The components I will strip down, refinish and replace where necessary but I'll keep the old look? So I need help (as usual): 1. Where do I get old school parts (brakes, handle bar, seats, rims, hubs etc) 2. What clear-coat can I get (rather cheaply) that will stick to the metal as is? 3. Where can I find old school (preferably slick white-walled tyres)? 4. Where can I get new (but old looking) decals? I'll pop some pics up for you guys.
  8. Hi Can someone please tell me if you take your Specialized bike into a Specialized Concept store are they obliged to replace worn parts (cables, brake pads ect) with original parts or can they use generic? Would just like to know.
  9. Hi All I'm looking for some advice or recommendations. I'm constantly in need of spares/parts such as gear cables, spokes, nipples, lube, mineral oil, etc; basically all general bits and pieces to maintain my bikes. I've always brought these thibgs from my LBS's, but its getting more expensive each time and they often don't have enough to sell me and use in their store. I'm looking for a cheapish shop or whole saler or bulk seller that sells direct to the public to get these type of things from. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  10. Fellow Hubbers I am the organiser for the Joburg Freedom Ride and we are working a new project in an attempt to promote cycling in Johannesburg and in creating jobs, and we need you help to make this possible. The project is the establishment of the first Bicycle Empowerment Centre (BEC) in Gauteng. The project was made possible through the donations made to the first two Freedom Rides. The BEC is a fully functional bicycle workshop with which offers sales of cheap second hand bicycles and spares, repairs, community training and training of the Schools Shova Kalula kids. The mechanics running the workshop were identified in the community as enthusiastic cyclists with basic mechanical skills. They were sent to Cape Town for professional training in Finances and in Bicycle Mechanics. They have now returned with two certificate qualifications and are excited to run their own business. We are looking for any kind donations of old second hand bicycles, parts, spares, tools (toolkits and bike stand) and anything else you may have lying around that could be useful. I have attached a document summarising the project and the progress we have made thus far. I look forward to hearing back from you. Bicycle Empowerment Network report.pdf
  11. I bought a Giant Anthem Advanced X 29er last year from my local bike shop (2013 model). Last weekend I bent the front wheel and according to the local wheel building specialist the rim should be replaced... no problem there. This Anthem uses the Giant P-XCR1 wheel set. The problem is that the local suppliers has no stock of this rim, or a replacement wheel for that matter. To make matters worse they can not commit to this rim being in stock in South Africa in the next 3 months. How can the parts availability be so bad for a company as big as Giant? So my options are: a) wait three month (with no satisfaction guarrantee) b) Fit something like a DT Swiss rim and run unmatched wheels (even if is just the decals) c) purchase a complete replacement aftermarket wheelset. Either way Giant owner's beware since OEM replacement parts for your bikes might not be available.
