  1. After hitting enough rocks, my MTB rims have a few dings in them, i was wondering how to get them kinda straighter, even tho i don't have any issues with them sealing at the moment. So started googling, seems quite simple, going to try it since the tyres are off for maintenance, need to get the wheels ready for this weekend http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Tech-Tuesday-Fixing-Rim-Dents-2012.html http://www.bicycling.com/maintenance/repair-maintenance/bike-repair-dented-rim Then i came across this interesting book as well http://books.google.fr/books?id=KbtiuIhNTcAC&pg=PA65&lpg=PA65&dq=how+to+fix+a+dented+mountain+bike+rim&source=bl&ots=TpnwmWlk7e&sig=2rcsVDr6Na0gx1kGQkMuOk1is0U&hl=en&sa=X&ei=a5T8Ur3KIOSR7Aaj94GwBA&ved=0CDsQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=how%20to%20fix%20a%20dented%20mountain%20bike%20rim&f=false
  2. I need to replace a cracked 26 inch Fulcrum Red Metal 3 rim. It’s got 24 holes, 16 on the drive side and 8 on the non-drive side. Apparently the Fulcrum guys in SA don’t have any 26ers anymore. Any suggestions for where else I might be able to find a compatible rim? I’m not fussy about brands, but something of comparable quality would be nice. It would be a shame to have to get a whole new wheel and replace a decent hub.
  3. Hi Hubbers! I have an aluminium MTB rim which has started to split open at the point where the rim is joined. While the rim tape and tyre hold the rim together well enough, I can't convert to tubeless because of the air leak. Any suggestions for repair centres in CPT? Will it need to be welded? I figure soldering the joint won't hold well enough Please help!
  4. Hi there hubbers, quick question, can any rim be used with a boost hub? thinking of building a custom wheelset by purchasing the components separately and having a pro wheelbuilder put it all together. upgrading a 2017 spark 940. thanks all
  5. Hey Guys, I have dented my rear Rapidé rim quite badly. Do you think its worth trying to fix it or should I just have it replaced ? Thanks for your help, James
  6. Guys, i bought a brand new set of AM Classics vic 30 two months ago from the LBS, all the spokes in the rear wheel were beyond loose after about 400km of riding, the shop said i hit something hard and caused a flat spot(i have hit absolutely nothing and there's no spot) so they trued the wheel for me and 2km in on the ride the wheel went warped and buckled again. Is there a way i can get this sorted?
  7. Hi I'm upgrading to carbon rims. Currently using ZTR Crests with Hope Evo Pro 2 hubs. 32 spoke count. My question is whether I should also change hubs and drop to 28 spokes? Weight saving probably around 30 grams (7.5g per spoke and nipple) so probably negligible. But carbon rims probably already strong enough not even needing the extra 4 spokes. I weight around 75kgs and do the odd jump. Thoughts? Thanks JL
  8. So this happened... Anybody tried to weld something like this? Or any other bright ideas? I'm a cheapskate so want to fix it.
  9. So I got dared into doing the Argus, entered and a month later decided I had better start training. So i bought my self a Silverback Sola 4 (Entry level hard tail). And did the Argus in 5:45. And loved it. My dilemma is that i was given a entry to this years whine2whales ride. And i am not sure that my bike will handle it. (Or i for that matter, but i have to try at least) My 2 big concerns being rims and front shock. The rims being Alex MD21 (I have to true them at least once a month)(My weight is 95kg's) The fork is a Suntour XCR. I was thinking that i could upgrade the rims to say ZTR Arch Ex's, The bike has Shimano Hubs. Advise please
  10. Howsit hubbers, My front and rear disks are rubbing in one spot per rotation. I have taken both rotars off and they are both unbent. I have also tried re-aligning the caliper multiple times but there is always rub in one spot. Any suggestions? I phoned one of my local bike shops thinking my rims could be the problem but they assured me the rims, even if untrue, won't affect the rotor running through the caliper. (is this true?) The brakes are: Tektro HDC300 hydraulic disc, 160mm rotors. I have tried searching the forums but cant find anything that helps me. If anyone knows how to fix this, or has any suggestions, please help!
