PENNYPINCHERS SILVERSTAR MTB CHALLENGE – RIDER BRIEF http://i3.cmail1.com/ei/j/32/35B/982/csimport/2015Silverstarlogo.113542.jpg Finally, the big day isn’t far away! Thanks for entering Saturday’s 8th edition of the Pennypinchers Silverstar Mountain Bike Challenge. We look forward to hosting you and trust you’ll enjoy your day out on some wonderful riding terrain. Starting times for the batches are as follows: 08h00: 40km batch A 08h05: 40km batch B 08h10: 40km batch C 08h20: 20km batch A 08h25: 20km batch B All riders have to report to the registration venues to collect number boards, batch stickers and race packs. Every rider will receive a temporary Spectrum Sport timing board which they have to affix to their handlebars with cable straps. These boards have to be handed in at the finish line once you’ve completed your ride. RIDERS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RIDE WITH THEIR PERMANENT SAS BOARDS. Registration venues: Thursday 3 September 2015: Cycle Lab Superstore, Fourways (10h00 – 16h00) Friday 4 September 2015: The Bicycle Company Muldersdrift (10h00 – 16h00) Riders who cannot get to these venues will be helped on the morning from 07h00 at the main entrance to the Casino, but will not receive race packs and will not be able to collect any race merchandise. There will be event T-shirts on sale at registration (limited sizes) - please enquire from our crew. Our route crew under the guidance of experienced route builder Darren Herbst have been working hard on the route and we will do our utmost to help everyone have a pleasant day out on the bike. With more than 1000 riders entered, it’s inevitable that the route will be congested in certain areas where the 20km and 40km events are on the same stretches. The Hillsnacks climb does, however, provide ample distance to stretch bunches out and the route keeps climbing for a further 2km after riders exit off the R28. The split point is at the 13km mark where the 40km ride turns back onto the mountain for a sublime loop on the Ridge while the 20km riders turn down towards the finish line. The split point is clearly marked in the lead-up as well as at the split, so make sure you look out for it. The two distances join each other again shortly before the final descent. The final descent down the old ox wagon trail is technical, but we’ve done a lot of work on it to try and make it ride-able. 20km and 40km riders will be on this section together and we request that 20km riders, who can’t ride the descent, walk to the far left hand side off the track to allow the quick 40km riders free passage to the finish line. There will be marshals on this section pushing slow traffic left - please adhere to their instructions. Click here to view the 20km route map and profile. Click here to view the 40km route map and profile The race starts inside Silverstar Casino’s new top parking lot above the complex (not the bottom parking area next to the boom gates as was the case in previous years) and goes out onto the R28 tarred main road climb before turning left into the bush on the Krugersdorp Ridge. Metro police will provide an escort and pointsmen on this section and we request riders to be cautious until we leave the main road (big thanks to Chief Sup Bryan Murray and his officers!). There are two water points on the route, which are stocked with PowerAde and Coke as well as tasty titbits, including koeksisters and crunchy cookies. We ask riders to be courteous at all times and stick to the left of the track whenever possible to allow faster riders to pass. NO SHOUTING AT SLOWER RIDERS WILL BE TOLLERATED AND THE ORGANISERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY ANY RIDER DUE TO MISCONDUCT IN THIS REGARD. The boom gates at Silverstar Casino will be open from 6:30 on Saturday. Prize giving is in the Piazza in front of the big screen at 11:00. Festivities are hosted by the “Voice of Cycling” in South Africa, Johnny Koen. The prize giving function will be broadcast on the big screen, creating a nice atmosphere at the venue. The finish line is inside the Super Dome at Silverstar For directions to the venue go to www.silverstarcasino.co.za A big thank you to our sponsors and partners: Pennypinchers Silverstar Casino Mogale City Metro Police Action Ford High 5 Ftech Rudy Project For further information email eventsupport@asgworld.co.za or phone 076 621 1807 .............................................................................................................................................................. http://i4.cmail1.com/ei/j/32/35B/982/csimport/BESTEMEDRACES2015editable_Page_1.055748.jpg FOR ENTRIES AND INFO ON THE BESTMED SATELLITE CLASSIC, CLICK HERE. RIDER COMMUNIQUE http://i2.cmail2.com/ei/j/CE/661/B34/csimport/2015Silverstarlogo.113542.jpg Our route crew have just finished their mammoth task on the final descent for Saturday's event and the result is sublime. Riders who are familiar with the Krugersdorp Ridge will remember the cutting from some previous editions which brings the event back to Silverstar at the end of both distances, but they won't recognise it with various bridges having now been built and lots of landfill work having been done to make it rideable all the way to the bottom. Quick riders in the 40km event are advised that they will encounter slow traffic on this section and they need to be cautious on their way down. RACING SNAKES NEED TO BE VERY VOCAL ON THE DESCENT TO ALERT SLOWER RIDERS OF THEIR PASSING. We will have marshals that will try and keep slow traffic left for the faster guys to pass, but there are no guarantees, SO PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS. Unfortunately the dynamics on the route don't allow free passage for the 40km racing snakes on this section - the only way was to allow the 40km riders to start 2 hours before the 20km, but this isn't possible due to start and finish logistics. We've traditionally had the quicker 40km guys link up with the 20km route in the final few kilometers of the event so this year won't be any different - all riders are just requested to be courteous. The Bicycle Company in Muldersdrift has let us know that they are going to have some great specials on High 5 supplements at number collection on Friday, so look out for these specials if you are collecting in Muldersdrift on Friday. Starting times for the batches are as follows: 08h00: 40km batch A 08h05: 40km batch B 08h10: 40km batch C 08h20: 20km batch A 08h25: 20km batch B All riders have to report to the registration venues to collect number boards, batch stickers and race packs. BIG SCREEN, BIKE PARK, BALLISTIC TRAILS http://i3.cmail20.com/ei/j/A6/356/080/csimport/2015Silverstarlogo.113542.jpg Silverstar Casino, "the West Rand's favourite entertainment destination", is bracing itself for the onslaught of a huge field of mountain-bikers who are ready to take on the Pennypinchers Silverstar MTB Challenge next Saturday (5 September 2015). Entries are still streaming in for the Pennypinchers Silverstar MTB Challenge, which will follow a new route along the Krugersdorp Ridge and boast a wonderful atmosphere at the revamped Silverstar Casino on September 5. Those riders who dine out at the venue in the week leading up to the event (next week) will be able to sit and watch the highlights of last year's event on the massive big screen in the Piazza area. The big screen will also broadcast the prize giving function live on the day, hosted by Johnny Koen, which will enable everyone who is having lunch after their ride to be a part of the action. The event starts in the new top-end open-air parking lot at Silverstar and finishes inside the big white Super Dome, adjacent to the Piazza area. A supervised bike park will be set up inside the Dome so that riders can leave their bikes in a secure area if they'd like to go and get a bite to eat, and, as per usual, the bike wash will also be set up. Riders who would still like to get on the start line, need to get their entries in at www.asgevents.co.za The Silverstar Challenge route has always been known as a challenging task and this year will be no different, although the 20km ride doesn't have major technical obstacles. Route director, Darren Herbst, said riders could look forward to beautiful forested sections, open fields and rocky trails with some spectacular views over the West Rand. “On a clear day, you can see all the way to Pretoria.” From the top of Protea Ridge, participants plunge down through the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden en route to the finish. “The last three kilometres will hair-raising for a few but exhilarating for most,” laughed Herbst. He said the casino finishing area, with its surrounding restaurants and children’s zone, would keep the whole family entertained for the day. Enter at www.asgevents.co.za. Alternatively, find Silverstar MTB Challenge on Facebook or follow @silverstarMTB. Broadcast by SuperSport Medals to all finishers. Timed by Spectrum Sport Start times: 40km - 08h00; 20km - 08h15 Entry fees: 40km - R210; 20km - R160 Results will be published on www.spectrumsport.co.za For further information, go to www.asgevents.co.za or email eventsupport@asgworld.co.za .............................................................................................................................................................. http://i4.cmail20.com/ei/j/A6/356/080/csimport/BESTEMEDRACES2015editable_Page_1.055748.jpg FOR ENTRIES AND INFO ON THE BESTMED SATELLITE CLASSIC, CLICK HERE.
