  1. There's a neat new series done by Pinkbike, revolving around the benefits of becoming a fully sponsored team rider vs a full-on privateer. Adam, a Pinkbike staff member, has been supporting himself through EWS and other Enduro / MTB racing for a long time, but has never been able to dedicate the same amount of hours as the sponsored riders, nor get access to the new kit, enhanced training, support and logistical benefits as the pro's have on tap. This series aims to show how much of a difference the step to a fully sponsored ride & team can make to "Adam Average" He's by no means a slouch, but up until now he's had to train when he can, and work to supplement it.

  3. Hi all, I'm just testing the waters here... Who would be interested in attending pilates based core strengthening classes aimed specifically at cyclists? The classes will not only focus on your core, but also on glutes, hammies, quads, ITB and all the other (often neglected) muscle groups that will really improve almost all aspects of your riding. The benefits of having a strong core and supporting muscles are well known. I'm noticing more and more cyclists discovering how much it really improves their riding, hence the reason for this poll. The classes would be before or after work hours (depending on demand), and will be held in a private pilates studio situated in Pretoria East (more specifically Garsfontein, near Menlyn Shopping Center). Classes would range from 30min to 60min. Your instructor holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSc Physiotherapy) degree with over 8 years working experience. She has also worked at various sporting events including the ABSA Cape Epic. She has completed her OMT post-grad qualification and holds key interest in sport injuries, rehabilitation and prevention. Having completed three comrades ultra marathons and four 94.7 Cycle Challenges, she is no stranger to endurance and performance events. She is also currently busy completing her Pilates Instructors Training Course through BASI. Please let me know by way of comments or likes if anyone would be interested in attending these classes. Thanks all, Duane
  4. So, who does cross training? What have you found to be the benefits? What have you found to be the 'down sides' if any? How often are you cross training? Do you adopt the 'muscle balance' form of training, ie: stabilisers and muscle you don't predominantly use while riding, but add to your overall endurance and power output? Reason for this topic is that I have been running these cross training sessions with a group of guys from our 'club', we have all noticed big changes and improvements, I want to see what others have to say about it.
  5. So, I've been riding quite seriously for about a year. I've been training really hard on the bike and my IDT fro the last 6 months. I've now dropped 2 kilograms and my legs are getting stronger. But, my upper body is starting to look like Chris Froome's - white, pasty and without any muscles or definition. Yuk I'm currently doing cycle training 4 or 5 days a week. Does anyone have any brilliant suggestions with regard to training my upper body so I don't look like a wimp, when I take my shirt off? I'm 50, done some weight training previously and spent some time in the gym.
  6. Hi, this has probably been posted 100's of times but have not been able to find the answer I am looking for. I have a 2013 Specialized Epic Comp, which is a great bike. My problem is that I have gone through 2 front rims in less than a year. I currently weigh 120kg and am 1.93cm tall. I don't know which way to turn, been on google, chain reaction cycles, mavic to mention a few sites. What do the guru's on thehub have to say? Thanks in advance
