  1. Commented on another thread but, everyone only reeds the first post. I need some help/advise PLEASE! I broke my scaphoid almost exactly 6 years ago. At first I didn't think much of it and only got it diagnosed a few months later. Had surgery and a compression screw fitted to get it fixed and, at first, all looked well. I was told it is not healing quickly but, signs look good. Also, the stiffness and slight pain I was experiencing is normal for someone who had had work done to the wrist and that range of motion (ROM) would never fully return. Fast forward almost 6 years: Had a laps in skill end of last year in a rock garden, otb and broke my hand (same one as the wonky wrist). X-rays diagnosed a really bad hand but also, a wrist that was not looking good. To cut a long story (with lots of time off the bike) short. I've been diagnosed with: For the doctors and googlers: avascular necrosis of the proximal pole of the scaphoid, for every one else: a piece of my wrist has died. The generally accepted next step is four-corner fusion. Basically a semi-fused wrist. I will have limited ROM, difficult to make the call but probably 50deg in total at best. And pain should go away. So my questions: 1. Anyone on here had this procedure before and still ride? How are you doing, what are the challenges etc. 2. Have anyone on here had any alternative treatment to the one described above, pros, cons etc. No need to comment on here, you can send me a direct message if that would be better for you but, commenting on here might get the questions exposed a bit more opinions. Any recommendations for specialists, rather DM me. PS. I'm not a road rider (nothing against them), off-road is life, and I would really like to will still be on a mtb, maybe an e-mtb, when I'm 80.
  2. Hey everyone, This is a call for help, to anyone who has any advice to give me. 2 years ago I injured my MTP( the joint behind the big toe) which is pretty much where most of pedal force goes through. Had surgery on it by Doc in Morningside, whose name I won't mention because the surgery was very much a "sausage machine" type effort with a short consultation and immediate booking into surgery without any scans. Tried to get out of the surgery but was coerced into it, sucks being a layman with some doctors. Anyways, surgery was not very successful, took about 7 months for me to get back onto my bike. Unusual as I was 22 and in good health. To this day I still struggle with my foot, not being able to put pressure on the inside of the foot has caused problems with my ITB, over developed the outside of my calf muscle and quadricep, while there is visible muscle atrophy on the inside quadricep and calf. Unable to get a full pedal stroke in either, because the range of the calf muscle is limited and the foot is essentially stationary through the pedal stroke. I need to see a physio who specialised in cycling specific rehabilitation and possibly a surgeon to assess whether I need corrective surgery. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, A frustrated mountainbiker.
  3. As some may recall, I was debating late last year as to whether or not to remove a plate and some screws that had put my clavicle back together. Thanks mostly to BarHugger for putting all sorts of terror into me ( ), I opted to have it removed. The surgeon took it out last Friday afternoon, and I am booked off this week and next. I haven't spoken with the surgeon about it yet, but, what is a 'normal' sort of time to wait to get back on the bike (not on the IDT, but back out on the road - I accept getting back on the trails will probably need more time). Obviously I know people heal differently, but, looking for a rough idea of how long to expect. I wouldn't want to risk pulling the wound open or popping the stitches or anything, but also don't want to be overly cautious as my bikes sit staring longingly at me
