  1. Hello all, I am looking at investing in a road bike with the idea to use it for the next decade, at least. I am weighing up two options, the Cannondale super six carbon (2015), 10-speed, which has american classic wheels, easton carbon handle bars and comes with a left-crank watt meter... compared to a Merida Scultura 4000 (2016), 11-speed, which has upgrades of campagnolo chorus parts. The Merida is about R3000 cheaper, when comparing both bikes as is. Any advice? I am waiting to hear whether a 52/36 crankset can fit the Merida, otherwise it will come with compact crank. Cannondale has a 52/36 already. Both bikes are second hand
  2. Simple question really, is it worth spending extra on more expensive jockey wheels ? is there any difference? Shimano XT Pulley Wheels RD-M8000 vs Shimano RD-M9000/9050 pulleys.R450 vs R165 Quite a price difference, what is it that you pay the extra for? I can't seem to find any info or specs on the jockey wheels.
  3. We are looking at new bikes. Fortunately been able to test ride the 2014 Specialized Expert 29er with carbon wheels, as well as the single chain ring on one of them. Absolutely awesome fun fast easy ride! Loved it. Specialized are great regarding offering test bikes. But the new Scott SL is at least 1.5 kg lighter (under 10kg), and its strong. (We've been riding 26" Scott Sparks. Did Epic on them 2010. Love them.) Anyone riding the 2014 Scott Spark 900 SL, that can give us some info on the ride? Anyone ridden both these mentioned Specialized and Scott 29ers who can give some advice on the differences or similarities? Real pain that Scott dont offer test bikes. Specialized say its not 'just' the brain that offers the great ride, its also their geometry. Any comments please? Thanks!
  4. I know this is can be one of those annoying threads, but as its almost impossible to test these bikes out in the real world, I just wanted to get another person's opinion (real world or not). Both go for roughly the same price. The Vipa is a full XTR bike (XTR9000) while the Scalpel is X01. As a matter of personal preference, I prefer SRAM but I have read rave reviews of the new XTR. I really, really like the look of the Lefty, but have never ridden one, so I cannot tell whether it will perform better than the Fox that comes on the Momsen. The Lefty 2.0 is included on the Scalpel. For reference I currently ride a 9kg Orbea hardtail. So I will be coming from a very stiff, responsive frame.
  5. Hi, I'm thinking of getting more into mountain biking and I'm looking for a decent entry level bike. I've found three options that look like they're value for money, but to be honest I have very little idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The three I've found are: Merida Big 9 20MD - R5,000 Silverback Spectra Sport- R5,600 Momsen AL129 (2014)- R6,000 Which of the three would you recommend? Thanks in advance
