Winter is the time of year when the clocks go back and for those who commute to and from work, or cycle to stay fit after a long day at the office, soon find their sunlit ride is now darker or pitch black. When winter arrives, you might think that bicycling season is over. But with a little knowledge and practice, winter riding can be highly rewarding. So having looked at the PPA newsletter this jumped out as interesting: If you liked the Coronation Double Century, you’ll love the new road event that we’re working on… The event will take place early in May, in a very scenic upcountry location. As is the case with the CDC, it will be a team-format event, with up to twelve riders per team. More information to follow soon… When they say up country, I hope they are talking, Cape Town's version of up country, as I do not think the WC is flooded for events in May!! Regardless, sounds like an event up our alley! Hopefully any suggestions posted here are read by PPA As per usual, a little self promotion slapped in there for good measure, and people love pictures
  15. The months of February and March generally see a congested road racing calendar across the country. Many of you are busy training for these events, especially in preparation for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. With the increase in cyclists on the roads comes an increased risk of cyclists also being hit by a vehicle. Click here to view the article

Excited learners from the Ocean View High School last week received bicycles from the Pedal Power Association. “This is just fantastic,” said cycling coach Fuad Waggie, who also teaches at the school. “These bicycles are giving our kids the opportunity to be part of a sport which is beyond their means in terms of their economic situation.” Click here to view the article
  17. Following the hit-and-run incident in which cyclist Dr Koos Roux was killed, the Pedal Power Association has appointed Advocate Ross McKernan to assist the prosecution in this matter. The case is appearing in the Kuilsriver court this week. Click here to view the article

Cycling enthusiasts can look forward to four days of top-quality racing with the 2015 SA Omnium Track Championships, an Inter-Provincial and a Grand Prix scheduled to be held on 4, 5, 6 and 8 November at Africa’s only indoor cycling track, the Olympic-sized Bellville Velodrome in the Western Cape. The Pedal Power Association this week extended a helping hand to Western Cape Cycling by coming onboard as sponsor for the Championships, following an urgent plea for funding assistance last week.   22. The Pedal Power Association is organising a funride around the Peninsula on Sunday 6 September 2015. This will be the first road funride of the season and, although the route is only 55 km, it is quite a tough one with three major climbs included. Click here to view the article

After long, successful negotiations, an agreement was this week concluded between Cycling South Africa (CSA), the Pedal Power Association (PPA) and the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT) whereby all events on the PPA calendar with a racing element will be sanctioned by Cycling SA.
