  1. Good morning Over the weekend, the shifter lever on my SRAM Force 10 speed snapped off. Please see image. Can this be repaired? Or would it be easier and cheaper to buy new shifters? Any ideas as to where I could get a replacement would be greatly appreciated. Or should I be looking at an upgrade to a new 11 speed groupset? Thanks in advance.
  2. Ahoy all. Since my new bike seems to have a bajillion levers and toggles (2x brakes, dropper remote, remote fork lockout, bacon dispenser) I'm looking at tidying things up a bit. In aid of this I want to get rid of my gear indicators. While I've seen videos online of older XT systems having a blanking plate pre-installed on the shifter housing, my SLX shifters (SL-M7000 2018) don't have this. I found that you can buy a blanking plate separately (https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/shimano-slx-slm7000-base-cap-fixing-screw-right-y06m98070/?geoc=US), but importing two tiny magoeftertjies from the UK seems ridiculous. Anybody have a spare set they'd be willing to part ways with, or know of a bike shop in the JHB area that may have some I can relieve them of? Next up is the possible removal of the Poploc remote lockout. I'm still uhming and ahing about this one as I like having a lockout option for the amount of road riding I do, but I don't need quick access or instantaneous switching between locked out and open, so the crown-mounted switch I had on my old bike was perfect. Anyone discover a smart way of bodging the Poploc system to work in the same manner?
  3. I have Sram X9 shifters. I’m finding that the gap between the up and down shift levers is quite large, meaning that I have to move my wrist or thumb more than I would like when making shifts. Is there any way of adjusting the reach on these models to move them closer together? I’m tempted to undo the allen bolts on the bottom to see what’s going on and if I might be able to rotate the lever to a slightly different position, but I’ve heard horror stories about some shifters spewing springs and bearings all over the place when opened up.
  4. a Buddy of mine started cycling 2 or so months ago.. He bought a 2nd hand bike off the hub for R3k as he is "REALLY" tight on budget. and for the most part cycling is a cheap day to day sport. Until something breaks of course.. Does anyone know where we can get a second hand or refurbished Shimano 8 speed right hand shifter. He said he heard some rattles while riding and then it won't shift. Took it in to an expert who said some parts are missing and it cannot be repaired. So as I said, he cannot afford to buy a R4500 groupset if his bike only cost R3k. i know we are cheap skates but all the guy wants to do is ride his bike.. He has actually shown real good progress. Going from a 15km/h average over a 20km ride to 25km/h average over a 70km ride(with a broken shifter by the way) If anyone has an old Groupset or shifter they are willing to let go for cheapish. Please contact me.
  5. I'm looking to upgrade to Shimano XT shifters. I noticed i spec shifters and like the fact that they bolt straight to the brake lever. As far as I can tell it doesn't have the gear indicator line but not a big deal for me. I very much like the simplicity and "clean" look (only one clamp each side on the cockpit). So now here is the thing: How can you check to see if the brake lever is i spec compatible? Bike is a 2014 Anthem X1 with stock SLX brakes (don't have the exact model number at hand) - it is a new bike so I'd assume it will be fine BUT we all know assumption is the mother of all... Hope someone can shed some light on this - thanks!!
