  1. Rumour has it The Glen might receive a dumbed-down makeover for the 2018 Cape Epic prologue? Can anyone confirm this? This year's Epic saw unskilled riders at Hoogekraal Gorge Trail hurt themselves badly and if you compare The Gorge to The Glen the wipeouts will be far worse if The Glen is not dumbed-down. Cape Epic, please refrain from dumbing down and ruining a spectacular gem of a trail. One prologue is not worth destroying something that’s been rad for years. Keep your riders safe and rather consider diverting them down the tarmac.
  2. TokaiMTB Volunteer Build Day 3rd June 2017, 9am - 3pm Join us for the next Volunteer Build Day of 2017! This build day takes place on Saturday the 3rd June at 9am. We'll be working on DH3 again! Thanks to the last build day, as well as the efforts of the Trail Tarts, the 2nd Bergvliet & 1st Steenberg Scout groups and a couple other intrepid volunteers, we should be able to open the lower extension of DH3 after this build day! After this, there will need to be a bit more material put into the trail in order to secure long-term sustainability (clay, clay, clay) and to get final shaping done, but with the basic trail being open, this could be done bit by bit and we can get back to enjoying DH3 in all its (NEW! IMPROVED!) glory. Vasbyt is now open again, and seems to be getting rave reviews from those who have ridden it. There are still a few areas which need additional material (clay and stone to replace sand) but that can be dealt with in good time. If anyone has a spare wheelbarrow, please bring it along to the build day, we'll be moving some material! Bring your hats, a spade or metal rake, sunscreen and plenty of water. A snack/lunch may also be useful! So - as normal, there are limited slots available. Please RSVP as soon as possible by filling in the form at the link below. See you on Saturday! As usual, please try to be there a little before 9am so that we leave nobody behind. Register here: http://eepurl.com/cQyhy5 Regards The TokaiMTB team.
  3. Howzit Hubbers! A quick update on iRide Africa's trail building progress at Lebanon. As some of you may know, Harry and I have been given permission to go and improve the trail network and we've been traveling out there and doing as much trailwork as we can between work stints (My skills clinic class schedule has suffered terrible, so sorry to those who I've had to turn away). We've designed new signage and Action Frames has kindly sponsored the material and printing costs (please support them if you need any display products made-they are mountain bikers!) but that signage will only go up in a month or so. So far we have added about 4km of trail to the network and without signage we are worried that the trails won't bed in and stay clear if riders don't start using them! So our suggestion/plea is to please download a VERY current map from our website here (we'll update it every time we add a new trail), plan a day to go riding/running and go and find these trails and give us your feedback while bedding in the trails! Obviously some of the trails won't link up perfectly yet so we want you to find your own way and connect the trails. We have the rad little problem of too much space and potential and not enough time/manpower to get the trails all built at the same time! The trails start at Oak Lane cottages/ Old MacDaddy and permits only cost R30! We've identified a few problems with the network and are trying to resolve them so more people want to ride there. What we are trying to fix is the following; 1) More singletrack 2) More variety to suit all types of riders 3) Better signage so people won't get lost 4) Improve start/end of loops to be exciting (proving to be difficult but long term goal) 5) More singletrack! So please, go and book yourself/family a weekend away and go and ride Lebanon trails and help us out while you are about it! We are planning a weekend of trail building for those that want to help out but most likely only in Sept/October. Lebanon MTB will kindly offer free accommodation, we'll supply free CBC beer and will have marked out the trails to build and the thinking is we get a posse of mtbers out there, do some serious trail building, and have a braai and social get together while we're doing so. We'll keep you in the loop with that one as we have at least 12km more trail to add there before we'll be happy ourselves!
