  1. Hi Hubbers. The last 2 months or so, I shopped around the Hub with some serious intent rather than just browsing. I looked for a bike computer as I am moving from Polar to Garmin and some Di2 bits and pieces to convert my wife’s bike. But what really got me is how many items are priced the same or even more than a new item. So, the family is gone and I have some time for a long post. As the Hub does not actually publish transactional data (rather than the advertised price) how do you determine the price: - Sellers: you advertise for? - Buyers: you offer for? Firstly, let me just state, I agree fully that you can advertise for whatever, and buyers can low ball offer to their heart’s content. This is not a marketplace ethics thread. Considering that: - almost no brands transfer warranties on secondary re-sales (including the Consumer Protection Act), - Discovery and other Programs give you money back etc at places like Sportsman’s and Cycle Lab, - and Shimano and SRAM Stuff can still be had from Chain Reaction I just do not understand how you justify being R100 less than new on a R3000 item, nor who will fall for that price. Thus I offer 50% of new (CRC) price. Which I think is fair as it is used and I will have no warranty, even if it is “brand new in box”. I thus do not really factor in the asking price all that much. But being regularly branded as a low baller, I was wondering what others thought?
  2. So on the eve of the final day of Oom Chris's Birthday Sale (and Friday!) I need some advice. After a lot of self-deliberation, I feel it is time to maybe take the plunge and spend some of my hard-earned on a pair of top-end bibshorts. Figuring that the amount of money I have spent trying out different brands so far (and time and again be disappointed) would probably outweigh the cost of a piece of Italian luxury, I have (reluctantly) decided to venture into Assos territory. Clicking over to the CWC sales, I encountered the first problem. I had a mental image of finding the aforementioned garment, selecting the largest size and with squinting eyes click "BUY". But in reality I have been met with such a diverse selection of different Assos bibshorts, all at extravagant prices, that probably only the Guptas would be able to buy all of them to try out. So, fellow dwellers of Hubland, please advise me on which will be the best option: The entry level T.Mille_S7 @R2100 The lighter T.Neo Pro_S7 @R2330 Or does the comfort only kick in with the T.Equipe_S7 (over R3000) or T.Cento_S7 (overR4000)? My budget simply does not allow to even look at the T.Rallyshorts_S7. I unfortunately don't roll in the dough, so need to choose wisely on a single pair that needs to last for several seasons. For some background, I often hear "You look like you play rugby" despite many hours in the saddle. I mix it up between 1 hour coffee rides, Saturday XC marathons (3-5hours), Sunday Enduros and the very occasional 2-3 day stage race. All on a Mountain Bike. Any feedback for the above models, or maybe spend my money on other brands? I have tried Sportful, Ftech, Anatomic, First Ascent, Enjoy and Finni.
  3. After a recent MTB event, I had a bit of a chat to the event organisers, and organisers of some other events that were also present on the day... I was absolutely shocked at the costs involved in hosting an event... Many of these costs are related to compliance, and cannot be avoided... Out of the 5 organisers I spoke to (with some big name events behind some of them), none of them are making a profit yet. Most of them were aiming at a break-even point at around year 4 only!!! ... So it would seem that its not (always) the organisers screwing over riders, but the system in which we are forced to operate???
  4. Hi everyone, A mate of mine has upgraded and is looking to sell his old mtb. Any ideas on a fair value for this bike? Marida Big Nine XT 2012 29er Hardtail Fox Shocks Full Shimano XT components Thanks Grant
