Hi Everyone

I'm looking to replace the backwheel on my tandem an need advice on the rim.spokes and hub needed for a good solid strong wheel.

My wife and me are fun riders so there's no need for a light expensive wheel. We are also not lightweight so it must be strong and durable

any advice will be appreciated.....and money is a factor

Hi rc6000

We are a heavy pair (actually I am the heavy one) Our road tandem is set up as following:-

Chosen 40 hole 9 speed rear hub

DRC 40 hole rear rim

DT stainless spokes

Continental 700x28C Ultra Gatorskins.

The Chosen hubs are Tandem specific with sealed bearings and they have wide flanges. The spokes are seated with DT washers at the hub. This eliminates play that cn lead to spokes breaking. The secret with ANY tandem wheel is to choose your wheelbuilding GURU very carefully. The impoortant issue is to have ALL spokes tensioned to the same tension nad to have a proper balance on the tension form the drive side (chain and ccassette) to the non drive side. The Chosen hubs are Taiwanese made and they are also sold under another name that I cannot remember. Their website was http://www.hubs-chosen.com/index4.htm but it does not seem to function. Please ask more questions if neccesary.
