Garmin Forerunner 310XT - water in unit

I have a Garmin Forerunner 310XT 2010 model mounted on my mtb. These units are suppose to be waterproof up to 100m, the problem is that it seems that water entered the unit when I washed my bike after a particularly muddy ride. Initially the unit switched on, but then froze and would not switch on or of or do anything else. I left the unit to drain the battery and tried again, but no, it is not working at all. I know that the unit is not under warranty any longer, but is there a chance that the unit will be replaced since it is supposedly waterproof? Any ideas, advice??

I had a 305 that packed up out of warranty. It was not repairable so Garmin SA offered me a trade in on a 310XT at a very good price. Send it in to them and see what they say.

Thanks David, I will give it a try. Have been looking to get the Suunto Ambit, but it is a bit too expensive.
