Hi all.

Any advice here will help. I would like to know for a person who is just starting out to do some cycling what is the best bike to use. Are you allowed to use a MTB in a road race specifically the 94.7. I'm thinking of doing the race next year which is a goal of mine. Also with regards to the maximum weight a bike can hold. I weigh about 150kgs and my height is 6ft4" (193cm). Also any bike recommendations will help as well.

Hi ..... mountain bike:

- your weight

- flexibility (you can do some nice mountain bike rides as well as road races)

- you can have a spare set of rims with slicks for road so there is less roll resistance

Makes of bike ??? buy "the right bike" from the start .... look at MOMSEN or Merida ... Al frames - 29er XL

Agree that MTB is much more versatile, and frankly way more fun. I think you're going to struggle to find a bike with wheels (specifically rims) rated to 150KG. You may have to get a set of wheels built up with DH or Freeride rims. Also remember at that weight the frame and fork flex is going to be amplified so go for a relatively stiff frame.
