Event Name: Safari Half Marathon

When: 1 May 2014

Where: Wellington, Western Cape

Category: Multisport

Now in it's 27th year, the ever popular Safari Half marathon in Wellington on May Day is poised once again and waiting for the start gun to fire 1st May 2014 at 07H10.

Entries closed Sunday evening midnight unfortunately. You snooze you lose. :whistling:. Fivers still open for entry on the day though.

Really enjoy this route and profile, much more scenic and forgiving than the NO OCEANS HALF. Ran it last year in 2.29, as my 2nd halfie (1st being The NO Oceans a month earlier). Hope to get closer to the magical 2hr mark on Thursday.

If you're driving through from Cape Town, remember to allow sufficient time to get to Wellington, traffic snakes back to the N1. Some parking is free, some paid. Luck of the draw.

Who else is running this event?

Cheers, Brogue

And as my hub name says ….... I’m nowhere close that 2 hours you aiming for... more like 3 hours for me ......lol

My third Safari too, technically. Walked it in 2012, so don't personally view that as a "completed half". I wonder if the organisers do though, when considering permanent number event tallies?

Anyway, your three hours is faster than anyone on the sofa. Let me know how you get along.

Good job, despite your injuries. I love the atmosphere at this event, it's so much better than the Oceans half and the weather is always favourable.

Next Half on the Cape running calender is the Jive Slave Route 21.1 on 12th May. I'll be there. First 10km is hilly, around Bo-Kaap, last 11 is downhill and flat around the Sea Point and back toward Grand Parade.

This Sunday is the 10km UCT Memorial, also a nice little lung burner.

Yep nic atmostphere at the finish..... i think i spent about an hour there (unlike Oceans 20 min at the hospitality tent then home)

Its 11 May ( on Mothers Day)..... Yep i know the route. did it 2 years ago.... first 10 is only hills.......

Will see how the ankle heal over the next week or so and decide on the day......

UCT is unfortunatly out for me. Dont think my wife will be to happy if i go run again with the injury ....lol

Did my 3rd this year too. Was my first official half marathon (70.3 was my first) and it remains my favourite half marathon of all time! I love the vibe and the route is spectacular. I woke up late and missed the entries and couldn't get a substitute entry, friend of mine had to pull out due to flu so got the call on Wednesday afternoon if I wanted the entry. Was too late to sub so had to run chipless - so not official but at least I got to run! I am horribly unfit this year with minimal running training. Had a terrible two oceans but had a super run yesterday, albeit slow! 2:14 (after a 1:52 PB last year)
