Well KonaFan the Schwinn is easier on the wallet, but what puzzles me is that on paper they are both very similar!!!!! Is the Trek more just because of Lance? There must be a reason? I wanna get the better bike because of its quality, not because of its name alone.

To be honest, in the end you must go with the one that feels right. Simple as that. Many have said so, because it is the truth. You will be spending plenty of time on it, so YOU have got to like it. Technically, they are very close, so choose the one which you feel most comfortable on. You like the colours better on the one? Well, then choose that one! I know it is almost impossible, but don't worry so much. You won't be on an entry level bike forever... Wink Pretty soon you'll want to upgrade and then the fun starts all over again.

I would go with the Schwinn.  The compact frame is more forgiving generally (thanks to a longer seatpost) and getting the right fit is often easier with a compact despite the limited size options.

I once owned a Trek 1000 and it is by far the worst bike I have ever ridden.

I just love Schwinn, a real icon in bike manufacturing and years of history to the name.

Millions and millions of American kids grew up on Schwinn and Pepsi.Big%20smile

Sure they went through a few bad patches (who hasnt?) and got sold off, but their Fastback design has been very successfull and the compact frame is much more comfortable and easy to ride.

I also had a Trek 1000 (an awefull old yellow one) at one stage and I agree with Linnega it was easily the most awefull bike I have ever had.

Couldnt wait to dump it.
