For a good cause - Need old road bike parts

Hi All

 

I gave my old, old Peugeot road bike from the 1990's to my gardener a few weeks ago. He lives in Walacedene (Cape Town) and needs to travel up to Durbanville some days for work. +- 20km there and back. He is doing the walk daily in search of work and obviously kinda buggered after a long day. I gave him my old bike in hope that he could get it up and running for himself. He managed to build it up and source tyres and tubes for himself. The only problem is I had a crash with it back in 1996 and several things where bent.

 

The the chain ring on it is warped. I got a 2nd hand fork for him cause the old one was buggered.  The rims was warped as well (Yes i had a bad crash) but he managed to get this repaired somewhere (Might be missing a few spokes).

 

The chain ring and crank on this bike is one piece so to replace the chain ring he needs an entire new crank and at least one chain ring. This is the main problem. He can cycle like 3 meters and then the chain comes off. If i can get a old crank he can at least get going...

 

Can anybody maybe help? Any spare parts around? For him to buy anything is almost impossible as he earns max R150 a day if he gets job...

 

Other things that are also needed:

1. Cables for brakes front and rear brake. The front cable is working but like 19 years old.

2. The shifter mechanism has completely broken so i am not sure we will be able to replace that... so i am not sure if we will be able to give him gears but at least a single speed.
