The Builders World Botswana Classic 3-day Stage Race held in 2014 was a great success. The event attracted a top field for the main three day race, together with a great turnout on the last day for the 60km, 20km, and kiddies races. The 2015 race will be held on 29^th to 31^st May, will continue as a three day, four stage format, and include the fun rides on the final day, Sunday May 31st, including a kiddies ride, 20km corporate challenge and beginners race, and a 60km race.

 

The 3-day will retain the format of the Friday evening prologue time trial based in CBD, Saturday morning’s stage will again be at Boatle-Mmankgodi, but this time with an uphill finish on the steep Taung Hill. The riders will have little time to recover before the Saturday afternoon criterium, on revised and more technical circuit for added rider and spectator excitement. Sundays races will again be hosted from Grand Palm, and will continue to feature racing through the city on the A1, for maximum publicity and exposure.

 

The 3-day is for junior age upwards, professionals riders are not eligible.

There is a great range of classifications up for grabs, in the tradition of stage racing, as per the details below.

3-day, 4 stage Road Race, May 29^th to 31^st 2015, Gaborone, Botswana

 

Distance: 5km, 70km, 40km, 109km, total 224km

Stage 1, Friday May 29^th, Prologue Individual time trial, 5km, start time 4pm, Masa Centre, Gaborone

Stage 2, Saturday May 30^th, road race, 70km, start time 8am, Boatle-Mmankgodi

Stage 3, Saturday May 30^th, Criterium, 40km, start time 4pm, Masa Centre, Gaborone

Stage 4, Sunday May 31^st, road race, 109km, start time 8am, Gaborone Grand Palm Hotel

Individual entries: P400, Teams of four: P1250

Entry is possible on the first day at 2 to 3pm at the prologue location limited to a total of 200 riders.

Entry fees on the day are as above plus P100.

No entries will be allowed after 3pm Friday May 29th.

Entries to individual stages are not allowed, the rider must participate in the entire stage race.

Team Classification: P5000 per team (teams of 4, best 3 times on GC)

General classification (men):

Overall GC: 1st: P4000, 2nd: P2500, 3rd: P1500, 4th: P1250, 5th: P1000

Overall GC Ladies: 1st: P3500, 2nd: P2500, 3rd: P1500, 4th: P1250, 5th: P1000

 

Categories: Junior, Sub-Vet, Vet, Masters: each category: 1st: P2,000, 2nd: P1500, 3rd: P1000, 4th: P750, 5th: P500

Points: P4000, King of the hills: P1000, Primes: P200 x 10 = P2000

Stages: P500, P350, P250 for 1-2-3 on each stage (4)

 

Qualification criteria:

1. The maximum number of entrants is 200. Sixty places shall be reserved for Botswana citizens and residents.

2. The event will run according to the Cycling South Africa and UCI rulebook and regulations.

3. The event will again have no restrictions on local entry (save that the 3-day is for junior age upwards); international entrants will be teams by invitation only (contact the organisers to apply for an invitation), professional riders are not eligible.

4. To encourage female participation, the is no minimum standard for adult females, however entrants are strongly advised to satisfy themselves that they have racing experience and sufficient fitness to complete this difficult multi-stage event

5. A stage time cut-off limit will apply – details will be confirmed for each stage

6. No mixture of club members to make up a team – unless by approval of the organizers in advance

 

Fun Ride SUNDAY (31^st May):

60km race: Start location: Grand Palm Hotel, Registration: 7.45-8.15am, fee P150, Start time: 8.30 am

Format: Mass start, 60 km, over 15’s only, male and female youth

Placings: positions 1-2-3 each category, Categories: U16, open road bike male, open road bike female, MTB male, MTB female

Fun Ride 20km: Start time: 9.00 am, fee P75, Open entry, any bike, over 12’s only, Placings: positions 1-2-3

Kiddies Race: Start time: 10.00 am, Open entry, any bike, under 12’s only, Route: inside Grand Palm grounds, Placings: under 5 positions 1-2-3, Under 12 positions 1-2-3, Kiddies ride for free
