What should your LBS stock?

Problem these days is that when prices go on a website, people tend to think they can buy online. There goes lbs. I am all for the personal touch and advice local shops can provide. And at least my shimano groupo didn't arrive in a box marked for fruit & veg ;)

Good luck Citizen Cycles. Wish you well in your venture.

Our niche is that we are mainly workshop based with a small retail section where we stock only a few brands but we make sure we stock the complete range from that brand. Customers seek us out for that reason. There was a Hubber having his Pyga build finished off last week who appreciated our stock range saying that everything in the shop is desirable. The things we stock we know well and we know they are great quality so we have had almost no warranty claims.

Clothing is a major headache. The space needed to show the clothing well, Items which quickly become shop soiled. Range of colour and size breakdown which you have to stock means huge outlay and the customers who have their own favourites. It's just one of those things which doesn't move and costs you money unfortunately.

Prices on a website? Everytime I order anything the price has changed. Maybe if I had a dedicated website person. Even our small shop has over 5000 inventory items...
