Waiting to turn left, I yielded to fast moving traffic approaching from the right of me, most with their lights on. I was about to take off, when at the very last moment I saw a cyclist, approaching from the right as well, almost on top of me! I jumped on my brakes and avoided a potentially disastrous accident. ( I could have knocked him into the path of the traffic!) In the poor light and oncoming traffic, I just couldn't see this guy. No lights at all, and his reflective jacket was totally ineffective. Close one...... I myself always use front and rear lights on my bike when I take to the road in ANY conditions.This incident highlighted for me, how as cyclists, we need to make sure we are visible especially in traffic and low-light conditions. Safe out there guys. Lights on!
