Event Name: PPA ‘Stay Wider Of The Rider’ Awareness Ride
When: 27 February 2016
Where: Maiden's Cove, Camps Bay, Western Cape
Category: Road

The annual PPA ‘Stay Wider of the Rider’ Safe Cycling Awareness Ride will take place on Saturday 27 February 2016. Join us at 06h30 to start at 07h00 sharp from Maiden’s Cove (Camp’s Bay) to Chapman’s Peak and back.

We urge all cyclists wanting a safer cycling environment to join us. For catering purposes, please enter online. There is no entry fee, but it will be appreciated if you could enter to let us know how many riders to expect. Please wear your ‘Stay Wider of the Rider’ cycling jersey.

The PPA is a public benefit organization committed to promoting cycling and the interests of cyclists. Our influence spans across recreational road and off road cycling events and initiatives, supporting cycling community projects as well as lobbying for the interests of cyclists’ safety and rights. The organization is one of the beneficiaries of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust and raises funds to assist with cycling projects and campaigns of which ‘Stay Wider of the Rider’ is one example.

The PPA launched the very successful ‘Cyclists Stay Alive at 1.5’ campaign back in 2011 which resulted in a 1 metre passing law which was promulgated in 2013 in the Western Cape. The STAY WIDER OF THE RIDER campaign which launched in 2014, urges motorists and cyclists to obey the rules of the road as it is a two-way street. Let’s all practice tolerance and respect on our roads.

DETAILS AT A GLANCE

Date: Saturday 27 February 2016

Click on the link https://online.entries.co.za/entries/findperson.aspx?eid=3634 to enter the STAY WIDER OF THE RIDER Awareness ride. This link will also give you the option to buy a STAY WIDER OF THE RIDER jersey if you do not already have one.

Please note this is not a timed event

Again, we thank you for the support for this important campaign.

(PS: You are most welcome to join us for the Awareness Ride even if you do not have a Safe Cycling jersey. Please wear your brightest jersey as statistics show that 85% of cycle accidents occur due to lack of visibility!)

Collection: Jerseys can be collected from the PPA Office in Kenilworth during office hours (08h30-16h30). You can also collect/buy your jersey from the admin staff between 06h00 and 06h45 prior to the start of the Awareness Ride on 27 February at Maiden's Cove, but we recommend that you rather collect yours from the Office so as to save time and standing in queues on the morning of the ride.
