The Trap de Val is an annual 100-mile (162 km) mountain bike ride from Johannesburg to Mpumalanga.

The route is approximately 85% gravel roads, offering riders a mix of challenging terrains and scenic landscapes. With an elevation gain of about 960 meters, the course is designed to be accessible to a wide range of cyclists, from seasoned riders to newcomers seeking a substantial challenge.

Beyond the physical endeavour, the event is deeply rooted in philanthropy. Proceeds from the ride support the Teddy Bear Foundation, an organisation dedicated to assisting children who have experienced abuse. This charitable aspect adds a meaningful dimension to the ride, allowing participants to contribute to a significant cause while pursuing their passion for cycling.

Participants can anticipate four well-stocked water points along the route to stay hydrated and energized. Upon reaching the end point - the historic Val Hotel - riders are greeted with a warm atmosphere, reflecting the town's rich history and charm. Limited accommodations are available at the Val Hotel for those wishing to stay overnight, and early booking is recommended.
