advice on converting to 8 speed

Hi guys

 

I got a carbon 3 spoke mavic 3g back wheel. The problem is that I have a nine speed bike and the wheel has an 8 speed screw on cluster that can not be converted to nine speed cause it is too old. I thaught of converting the bike to 8 speed. Is this even possible? Is there someone out there that has an 8 speed group set or could you possible send me in the right direction PLEASE!!! I really want to do the convertion even if it is stupid to down grade to an 8 speed. Maybe there are some of the older guys that can give me some good advice. This wheels that I got was used as I understand by Andrew Maclaen and Mike Klosterman and was used in two world championships.
