Entry Level Mountain bike

My girlfriend wants to join me with mountain biking after she noticed how much fun it is.

 

Now I am looking to buy her one but do not know what to look for. Any suggestions please?

How much are you willing to spend on the bike?.. you can pick up some decent entry levels going for around R4000 to R7000, GT's are good, so are Mongoose, Silverback, Raleigh, Fuji to mention a few, or you could pick up a good deal from the hub

have not decided on how much i would like to spent... first look at what is available

Look at the new 2010 range of Merida, price good and some very well spec'd bikes. One really good deal is the 2010 Matts 80 but its @ R9000 (if you can negotiate)

 

That said, it might be safer to pickup a 2nd hand one and see how it goes before expending too much on what might not stick.
