  2. Dear Hubbers So the One Tonner was windier than expected and the 109 km riders started later and in larger bunches too. I think the marshalls botched this one but that's okay... So on my way back with the R302 / R304, I have seen some horrific riding by the faster 170 km riders. At some point a guy was pushed off the road and onto the gravel. Another was pushed into a rain channel and some brushed passed me in their efforts to keep up - at a very unsafe clearing distance. I understand the need for the peloton to move, and hence staying as deep into the yellow apron is what most appeared to be doing - but sjoe... What happened to courtesy at these events? Let us not forget that we are "brothers / sisters" on the road... As for the dude that fell at c/o Helshoogte / Simondium Rd - I hope you're okay. Get well soon! The biker marshal who tried to prevent the head-on collision between motorists on Simondium Road; thanks for having our backs Oh, for those boys and girls who met the mole-snake My appeal: Be more considerate towards the slower riders please. Stay safe, Stay visible!
  3. Thanks for your views Hubbers. Guess I'll have to up my race game, suffer a little more and results will get better, eventually...
  4. Hello hubbers So I started entering road events and EVERYONE said, "Join the PPA and get better seeding..." So now that I'm in it, I'd like to understand the rules that governs said seeding. In my previous post, we have established the Group Eligibility categories, see hyperlink. Beta values... How is it possible, that for the same race, over the same distance, one year apart the difference in beta = 0.52? Bouckaert-Soenen 2016 had a beta = 1.43 and in 2017 beta = 0.91? 99er Cycle Tour 2016 beta = 1.30 and 2017 beta = 1.05? I would assume the "algorithm" accounts for the following event minimum distance = 100 km, elevation gained = 1000m, beta = 1 if the race is windy; i.e. head wind (>50% of the route distance) = 5m/s, add 0.05 for every 1m/s of average wind speed if race has a tail wind for more than 50% of the route distance, subtract a 0.05. If the event starts with a big climb, like Stellenbosch Cycle Tour account for it If it has rolling hills with a big climb within the last 10km's of the race add a decimal.. I hope you get my point... But for the life of me, how is it that the same distance, same route, winner's time within a 1% gets "down-rated" by so much, i.e. lowered beta value... I think, PPA / RaceTec should standardise by distance and elevation gained. A baseline beta, that will not reduce a 124 km race to less than 1. Happy commenting
  5. Hello everyone Thanks for the updates. Somehow, I don't get notifications to the comments posted. I have requested a listing from PPA and received something that contradicts the online ratings as displayed when you query seeding... See below,... GROUP Group Min: Group Max: A 0 8 B 8 13 C 13 16 D 16 19 E 19 21.5 F 21.5 24 G 24 27 H 27 31 I 31 35 J 35 39 K 39 43 L 43 47.5 M 47.5 52 N 52 57.5 O 57.5 63 P 63 69 Q 69 75 R 75 82 S 82 90 T 90 100 U 100 112 V 112 127 X 127 170 Y-Z 170 250 I will continue a new discussion on the Beta values assigned by RaceTec. I would like to understand the "algorithm" better...
  6. Hello Hubbers I would like to know, if there is a PPA Road Seeding Index list available, which enables a rider to gauge how far he is from the next Eligibility (Group). After my first seeding race, Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle Tour 2016 - my seeding is as follows Current Index - 68.81; Group Min - Max = 66.00 - 72.00; Eligibility = P. I would like to know, Group Min - Max and Eligibility for higher seeding positions; that is O, N, M, L, K, etc ... Thanks
  7. Hi guys, did the ride. As awesome as you described. Traffic was okay and there were many others on the road. Relive with Strava included for you... https://www.relive.cc/view/846670317
  8. Amazing response everyone. THANKS A LOT... Any comments on the R312/R302 from R44 side heading to Durbanville?
  9. Hello everyone Can I get your views on how safe a ride along the R44 from Stellies to Wellington is? In addition, I may consider to extend the route back via Durbanville (R312 & R302) to Blouberg. Thanks in advance...
  10. I use the Deuter Giga Bike. It has supports all round and a reflexive raincover. Proper support and many compartments for packing. Additional storage for cell phone and goodies... Stocked at Cape Union Mart Cost R1400
