  1. What did the police have to say about doing their job and making us safe on this stretch? We cant all change our routes or take a chance that some moron will not try to attack us.
  2. This makes me really angry. I ride that stretch around four times a week and rode it at 12sh on Saterday on my own so it could have been me. Glad to hear that you are OK Vaste but what do we do looking ahead?
  3. I think the design and colours are great...I wouldn't change a thing. I do have a red, black and white bike and all my kit are the same colours so I am biased though. Nice design concept...I would definetly consider a pair if I was buying...

  5. I've also had very few bad experiences on this road over the 15 or so years I have been riding it.It's just a case of doing all you can to improve your chances and hoping for the best. If a careless motorist is going to hit you then there is little to nothing anyone can do about it. I talk from experience as four years ago I was hit by a forty ton truck when it decided to mow me down in the yellow line when I was on my way to Franschoek. I did everything right but that has little to the attitude, ability or awareness of the driver. I am still riding on the road as I have accepted the dangers and love the sport too much to pack it all in just yet.
  6. I've just finished a ride on the R304 and made it through the infamous Khayamandi intersection...all good for a nice spin in the country...or so I thought. Some numbnut driving a blue Jetta towing what looked like wooden doors on a trailer comes past straddling the yellow line (in which I am riding). Only problem is one of the wooden objects has turned 90 degrees so is considerably wider than when he loaded them and is way too low behind the car for the driver to notice. Lets just say that I am grateful that my foot is still attached to my leg even though my white Assos bibs are going to need more than a light rinse this afternoon. Will probably be out on the same road tomorrow or in the next couple of days so lets hope that it's had its share of drama for now.
  7. What you mentioned is 100 percent spot on. I do that section 3 to 4 times a week and it's hit and miss (no pun intended) whether a truck or a taxi is going to do something really stupid behind you. I always try to ride at (kinda)the same pace as the traffic and signal like a man possessed to try to improve my chances where the lanes split but that is no guarentee. Having said that there are some buffoon cyclists who are going to get taken out there because they think the road belongs to them and them alone. Good luck to the victim of the accident in any case and lets pray for more tolerance and observance from all road users in the run up to this Argus.
  8. Maybe give Meurant or one of the Dirtopia team a call or throw them a mail as they may be able to fax or mail you a map to at least get your bearings before you hit the trails. As some of the other guys have mentioned, one or two of the singletrack sections are in a terrible condition so hopefully they will get cracking on them in the near future. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Hoek regardless of experience anyway...
