I saw a cyclist killed at the junction between the Slanghoek road and the Rawsonville (old N1) road after the race (around 12:30). I arrived about 10 mins after it happened, sheet draped over the body and shiny bike crumpled on the road. I assume it was a competitor. Does anybody know any more about this accident? I can't seem to find any info online.

Hello all. Last night (Sat 13 August) my bike was stolen from my house in Stellenbosch. It is a silver framed Scott Aspect 10 with the following specs: • Tora 302 U-turn front shock • SRAM Attack 9spd gripshift gearchange • Shimano LX rear derailleur • Race Face Evolve XC crankset • Shimano M457 disc hubs • Maxxis Advantage tyres • Hayes Nine hydraulic disc brakes It might not be the swishest bike out there but it means the world to me. It is quite differentiable from any other Scott thanks to the amount non-standard components. The white and black gear and brake cables stand out as well. If you're in and around the Stellenbosch area I'd be grateful if you keep an eye out for it.

I'm reckoning MTB with slicks...

Thanks. Might head over and take a look this weekend for myself. Don't have a 29er and can't lockout the front fork on my MTB. Worried about wasting a lot of energy through that front shock. Hence the road bike/slicks query.

I know the record has been set on a road bike with cross country wheels. Can the ascent be done on a standard road bike with slicks? I've yet to check out the route...
